Default Eden Prairie & Flying Cloud Airport

We have been planning on looking at homes in Eden Prairie, as we really like that area of the metro. However, one concern we have, is airplane noise from departing and arriving aircraft and the Flying Cloud airport.

What parts of Eden Prairie would be the best, from the standpoint of minimizing the overhead aircraft noise? Also, is MSP airport-related aircraft noise an issue in Eden Prairie?

Thanks in advance for any info...

I lived in eden prairie off of pioneer trail near the airport. I NEVER noticed airplane noise. I think a lot of it had to do with the fact that they were small airplanes. Nothing like a commercial airplane that will stop a conversation or make the pets run for the hills

Keep in mind, that was 10 years ago...you may want to check and see if their airport traffic has greatly increased.

I would agree, the small plane traffic would be more of an annoyance than a quality of life issue like you would find with the jumbo jets. The just don't produce the same noise and you aren't going to get the night time flying you find at MSP. The area immediately surrounding the airport in EP isn't residential so you really can't live all that close to the airport. I'm a little surprised they haven't moved that airport to less prime land though. I am sure there are a lot of people that would love to build a house on the bluffs along Flying Cloud Drive--what a VIEW!!

I lived in Eden Prairie off Pioneer Trail as well (1999-2004), and planes and any related noise were never an issue.

One of my brothers lives off of Pioneer trail near Flying Cloud Drive. (I almost called it 212/169! Flying Cloud Drive hasn't carried 212 for almost 4 years, nor 169 for roughly 20. Oof Da!)

Airplane noise is not comparable to MSP. It's mostly very small planes that use Flying Cloud airport (FCM). They have a 60,000 lb restriction, except in emergencies.

It's pretty tame most of the time; FCM isn't super-busy like a commercial airport. Think on the order of a few dozen flights per day, not per hour like MSP.

The airplanes I do hear aren't roaring jets; they're more likely to be of the single engine/turbo-prop variety.
