Exclamation River Hills neighborhood in Burnsville?

We are looking at a house in the River Hills neighborhood of Burnsville. It is very close to the train tracks. Can anyone tell me anything about the train schedule in that area, or about the neighborhood in general? This house is just south of the Minnesota River, near Blackdog Park.

Thanks!

I am not familiar with that specific neighborhood, but I have been in that area and have read some stories lately about airport noise affecting NE Burnsville. Probably the biggest transportation complaint associated with the area would be the airplane noise due to the new airport runway that opened up in 2004: Northeast Burnsville gets noise relief. The airport is trying to mitigate some noise, but if you look at flight patterns, the airport generally tries to lightly burden many areas rather than to heavily burden few areas.

The other transportation issue, the one you raised about the frequency of trains, doesn't look like much of an issue. According to this map from 2006 (http://www.dot.state.mn.us/ofrw/maps/metro2006.pdf), it appears that only eight trains trips per day take the tracks near the neighborhood. Now, whether or not they come at night is another issue.

Sorry that I can't help with the feel of the neighborhood and the local schools. Maybe someone else has an opinion.

I know that area kind of well, and I don't find airplane noise to be a big concern. They are pretty high by the time they get over the river. The area is around Hwy. 13. and has alot of older ramblers. I find even suburban shopping around that area to be kinda out-of-the-way. There is a Walgreens and strip mall on Cliff?, but you would end up in Eagan or at Bsvl. Center for most shopping. I don't know anything about the schools, but there is a Junior High in the immediate area. My 2c.

I don't know anything about that neighborhood but personally I would not want my kids attending Burnsville schools. They are in our athletic conference and EVERY time we play Burnsville the student body is rude, rowdy and simply out of control. There is no other school I have come across in my many, many years of playing, coaching and just attending sporting contests that acts like the kids from Burnsville. I know is seems minor but if this behavior is acceptable at sporting contests, both at their school and at away contests, what is it like there during the school day.

At one football game last year the fans from Burnsville were so completly rude that many, many parents sent letters to the administration at Burnsville and not ONE person got any response back.

I lived in Eagan and worked primarily in Burnsville right near Hwy. 13 (also some of the other s. suburbs). I have friends who live in the River Hills area and they specifically sought out that neighborhood for low crime and great family area from what they tell me. The airport noise is not too bad. I grew up on a super quiet farm and the airport noise didn't bother me. There are some really nice houses in that area and the yard sales are great! I have heard that the Burnsville school district is not so hot but I don't have kids in school, that's just what I've been told. Good luck to you and happy hunting!

Default Nice Area

I grew up in Burnsville, not far from the River Hills area. I went to River Hills church and had a number of friends that lived in the neighborhood. As far as the train noise is concerned, I'm not too sure, never heard any complaints I guess. As far as airplane noise, not really a problem. You hear them, but they're not too loud, and after long you don't even notice them anymore. Overall the area is very nice. There's a target close just down Cliff Rd. in Eagan, along with a few decent restaurants, and Burnsville Center is maybe 15 minutes away. You are very close to 77 which will take you to the Mall of America (10 min) and the airport (15 min). Overall I think the River Hills area is a great location. As far as the post about the schools being bad...not too sure, I graduated in 2002, and the schools were just fine. We used to get repremanded for being "rowdy" and games as well, but in my opinion other schools were the same. Everyone is there to have fun and cheer on their school. The one problem Burnsville does have with its schools is overcrowding. The Senior Campus for the High School makes it a little better, but the schools are very full. Hope this helps....oh and I agree, the yearly neighborhood garage sale rocks.

If your going to pick a neighborhood based on how kids at the high school behave at sporting events then I guess you have your reasons not to live here. I myself have grown up in South River Hills, and will graduate from BHS in 2010. It's a great neighborhood, ideal for kids to grow up in, there is usually a game of wiffleball in someone's yard, or kids playing hockey at the neighborhood park in the winter, (South River Hills Park) and the school system is one of the best in the state as well. If you want to believe golfergal thats fine but if you look at the State Test Scores from Burnsville, and specifically William Byrne Elementary and Metcalf Junior High (both located in the neighborhood) they are almost always above average.
