Super late follow up.

I'm debating at this point about shading in the area with plants or I randomly came across some nice looking bamboo rolls.

Has anyone seen a bamboo fence in MN???

How well would it survive the winter?

Well I don't know.

Just so I'm clear... the bamboo is not alive and attaches directly to a chain link fence.

This is what I was thinking:
6 ft. H x 8 ft. W x 1 in. D Mahogany Rolled Bamboo Fence-HDD-BF20 at The Home Depot

What about growing ivy over the fence? It provides a good screen and is evergreen, pretty, and doesn't take up room in the yard.

Very possible.

However, on my one side of the yard, I need height to help block the street view a bit.

We used some of the bamboo rolls at our old house. It wasnt the home depot ones but similar. They weren't on the chain-link fence but a smaller area around the patio. They were up for about 3 years and lasted without a problem, there was some cracking but it was only noticeable if you were looking for it. They would have made it longer but we moved and took them down. Make sure to keep it from directly touching the ground. We had some bricks underneath ours. Attachment can also be interesting to figure out. I ended up using clear or white zip ties that you couldn't see easily (ours was a lighter color than in the link.) The bamboo fencing can look really nice if you work it into the landscaping.

Yeah, I am in the midst of reworking my backyard.

I think I am going to give the bamboo a shot.
