Actually, I have thought about class. I don't recall a group of middle-upper class Blacks attacking Whites. I don't recall such actions coming from upper class Whites either. Why the media sensationalizes some things and not others, I can't think of a reason. Maybe I'm a bit more sensitive and more sentimental than most people, but this crap actually does scare me for reasons including, but going beyond safety. I know that a blog called stuffblackpeopledontlike.com has seized upon these "flash mobs" and basically tries to day "Black people are a plague, avoid them". And I doubt this is some uneducated, dirt poor person making this website.

Really? I live 30 mins from Mpls and avoid it like the plague. I don't know what is worse, the flash mobs or the bicycle riders.

I took my wife and daughter downtown once years ago to go the 8th floor of Daytons--some kind of Christmas show or something. Anyway about 6 thugs followed us when we left walking towards the parking ramp. They started talking their trash to us about how I should give them money and what they were going to do to me ect. I turned around and said "let's party" There's 6 of you and 1 of me but I'm going to grab ahold of one of you and you are going to wish you weren't born when I'm done with you" I'm 6'2 and at the time around 200. All you have to do is talk back to them and they back right off, most of them are cowards.

MPD has published citywide crime figures for first quarter 2012. Total crime is up 18%. Meanwhile, the mayor goes mosh-pitting for a photo op. Heck, I think even his neighbors are suffering increased crime. They should be knocking on his door and complaining.

And now is there any way we can convince these vagabond youth to entertain themselves elsewhere, too? How about lots and lots of fines? Maybe if they lose their smartphones, their bling, and a few other prizes, they'll seek other amusements.

If that were the reasoning, it would actually be incredibly poor in terms of journalistic standards. Reporting on the harm of many at a public event trumps the potential backlash a group faces. I don't necessarily mean that as my public opinion, but as a journalism major, we have to discuss such sticky situations. I know if I were an editor of a newspaper, I'd be running a story about a crazy mob at a state fair, regardless of the color of the people.

From a journalist perspective, yes, it would definitely make sense to report on everything, no matter how sticky it is.

From a social perspective, it scares me because I know if everything were to be reported, I would personally face a backlash, someway, somewhere. I can't help but think of the backlash, being an African-American male and living in the USA.
