Title says it all. Looking to buy a "date day" for my parents for Mother's day. My mom loves historic buildings and my dad likes taking my mom out to eat, so I'm going to buy them admission to the Hill House and then a gift card to a nearby restaurant. Can anyone recommend a good place to eat? My mom is kind of picky and prefers the standard American or Americanized Italian fare. She would rather have the best hamburger/meatloaf/lasagna around rather than some exquisite hard-to-find or unique dish. Somewhere other than Cosettas. Is WA Frost good food?

Forepaughs, just down the hill from JJH, converted Victorian house. Nicer than hamburgers but still American food.

There's W T Frost and Moscow on the Hill, both on Selby.

Forepaugh's is an excellent choice. W.A. Frost is also good but not as close. The St Paul Grill in the ST Paul Hotel is an option as are a few of the sports on W 7th like the Downtowner Woodfire Grill.

I don't know Forepaughs so I would recommend WA Frost (nice patio if it's warm enough) or the Downtowner. Both have great food.

What? WA Frost is just up Selby from the Hill house, about 3-4 blocks. Historic building, great ambiance, wonderful patio and great food. They could walk there, it's a pleasant stroll. Another block down Selby is La Grolla. Classy place, great food. Forepaughs is down the hill, probably actually a little farther than the other places.

Maybe I must have the Hill house mixed up with the Ramsey house? I was thinking of the one thats South (?) of W 7th, just off Walnut or Chestnut right behind the Science Museum?

James J Hill house is on Summit. WA Frost is OK. If they are just looking for good food and not a sit down restaurant experience, Cheeky Monkey has the best meatloaf style food in the area. In a similar vein, the go-to place to take your mom in the area has always been Cafe Latte on Grand.

Yes, that's right. I forgot about the Ramsey House (south of 7th, practically next door to Forepaugh's.)
