I've recently turned 16 and there's not much to do around my house. Are there any nightclubs or any places that would be entertaining for someone my age in/around Minneapolis? Some place to go with a few friends on a Friday night and just relax?

Just to clarify I'm NOT asking for a rave with illegal drugs or something. Like I said, some place to just chill for a few hours maybe once in a while.

I should add I looked on twincitieslive for 16+ nightclubs and while I'm sure it's trying to be helpful, all of the places it suggested are 21+.

I think some places (parks or school districts, maybe? Volunteer organizations?) offer some teenage hangouts, but I'm not familiar with any of them. For what it's worth, though, if not hanging out in someone's house, we spent a lot of time at Perkins. I haven't been to one for years, but I think they are still open all hours, and they would tolerate a group of high school kids nursing a drink and maybe a piece of pie for a couple of hours. Perhaps not the level of action you're looking for, but it was a nice place to just hang out and talk! Some coffee places were/are open later, too (a lot of the places in Uptown are open to at least midnight; Cafetto is open to 1 am, for example, and has a much hipper vibe than Perkins!), and I think some of the clubs have 16+ shows from time to time. Where in the Twin Cities do you live? You can probably find something close to where you and your friends live. I'd investigate the coffee places first. Not the corporate Starbucks of the world, but the more independent small places. A lot of them have live music at night, too, and since they're not serving alcohol they are teen-friendly.

There seems to be a lot less 16+ club nights now compared to when I was younger. Tropix in Minneapolis was popular for 16+ Saturday nights when it was still open.

I think Myth, Valentino's, and Stargate have 16+ nights, but they are in St. Paul/Maplewood rather than Minneapolis.

That's because children are getting more and more stupid and always trying incredibly stupid things to get hammered and they probably could recognize which bartenders don't check ID or they just got friends to get them something to drink. Sadly, stupidity is ruining many peoples' fun.

I live near Maplewood but am moving to Minneapolis soon, so it's no problem really.

HEY MOM GUESS WHERE I'M GOING haha. Is that just some mom that freaked out? I highly doubt something that awesome exists in St. Paul. Unfortunately even if that's remotely true I'm not going there. I'm looking for something more classy and not sleazy like first avenue can get.

Don't discount First Avenue (if you can get in) -- you may think it sleazy, but it's a major local icon. A lot of big names have passed through that place. Not sure if they have any 16+ nights, though, but they do have a bunch of 18+ shows -- no help now, but put it on your list of places to go in a few years.

I didn't mean to say it was sleazy. Just the way people act in there sometimes. I can't count on both hands how many times a 7-foot-tall blazed-out-of-his-mind 20-year-old has ruined something for me by standing in front of me and smelling like dead, rotting rabbit... I got to meet Good Charlotte backstage there

I think I went to the movies, billiards halls, bowling alley, mall, or just played cards with my friends until I was 18....when I could add the casino to the repertoire.

Even if I was 18 I wouldn't gamble. Obviously casinos wouldn't exist if the odds weren't against the general public.

Yet you buy goods and services everyday from people who make money off of you and it doesn't bother you? Of course you won't win in the long run, but it's considered a form of entertainment and sometimes it's fun to test your "luck"!

It is usually a 16-20 only night with no alcohol served at all or a separate room for 16-20 year olds with no drinks allowed to move between the rooms.

I haven't been to stargate in about 10 years, but that just sounds like some really crazy conservative parent.

The main page of the linked site is... Exodus Christian Web Design & Graphics Studio

Valentino's and Myth are much bigger and nicer than Stargate which is in a strip mall.
