Go to the Syracuse game on Sept 22nd. It's the only 7pm start of the season & will be Nationally televised. When we play night games the students show up & the atmosphere is excellent.

That just might........ juuuussstt might be the game I got tix to!

I hate the noon kickoffs here in the ETZ, I can only imagine how bad 11 a.m. blows.

Actually, I lived in San Diego for a short while back in the day, and was bewildered to see games on TV at 9 and 10 in the morning. That REALLY sucked.

Actually, if you are crossing over that way and you have a little extra time to spare, you might want to drop down from 94 and drive down Summit Ave. in St. Paul (runs parallel I-94, about 1/2 mile south). Its a beautiful street with the 'old-money' homes and such. One block further south (Grand Ave) will have tons of restaurants and places to get a drink if its breakfast, lunch, dinner or cocktail time when you are passing through.

Hope you enjoy your trip!

Lake of the Isles was my favorite walk when I lived in Uptown. You can see a bit of the skyline but you get a better view from somewhere with a bit of height.

You won't want to shoot over to Mound's Park, that's a haul from SW Mpls. How old are you & will you be doing the lakes with the wife &/or kids?

I thought you were coming up here to check out neighborhoods. How much time are you spending up here that you can accomplish that and this other stuff? By the way - may want to make sure that if you do go to Calhoun, that you go during the day. A friend of mine got held up @ gunpoint one night there last spring.

Wow, I know stuff like that CAN happen along lakes like Calhoun but it is SO RARE that it's not even worth avoiding or worrying about. However, depending on how desolate the lake is and if you're by yourself, it may not be a good idea to walk around in the dark by yourself late at night....but that bodes true almost anywhere. Still, I'm surprised to hear a story like that -- Lake Calhoun is the OPPOSITE of scary!

Yeah - that's what I thought too. In the day I've never had any trouble, but most places are different at night. Plus, you have so many areas that have no security camera and a plethora of hiding places for baddies.

I wouldn't worry about it. I don't know anyone who's had any problems. I think it's probably pretty rare. But really, a midnight stroll wouldn't give you a good view of the skyline, anyway!

One safety precaution that you SHOULD take, however, is not to leave anything valuable in your car. And don't just put it in the trunk and think it's safe there. The neighborhoods around Lake of the Isles and Lake Calhoun are very safe, but because the lakes are such major attractions and get people from all over -- people who are often jogging or roller-blading and are driving in from other places to do it and obviously don't want to haul a purse around with them on their run -- there are career criminals who scope out the adjacent streets looking for easy pickings. I would not be worried about parking there (I don't know anyone who has ever had a car stolen or anything, or had any problems if there was nothing of valuable sitting out in clear sight) but you do run the risk of having your stuff stolen if you leave something valuable visible, or if they see you trying to stash something in the trunk or under the seat. Bring your purse with you, and if you must bring a laptop, etc, put it in your trunk BEFORE you park.

That makes it sound worse than it really is. It's a very safe neighborhood and usually very busy, but because it's both a local and a tourist hot spot, and because so many people do leave their expensive gadgets/purses/computers in their cars, you've just got to use some common sense safety precautions. I don't know anyone who's been mugged by the lake, but I do know people who've had their stuff stolen out of their car because they were careless.
