Hello everyone!

Does anyone know why there are SO many houses for sale in North Lakeville (just below Crystal Lake) in 300k-400k range as compared to other similar places like Eden Prairie?

Eden Prairie seems pretty tough. With some houses being sold for more than asking price. Houses definitely seem nicer in Lakeville for the same price.

Which of these areas would you recommend more for a young family expecting kids?

I have read numerous threads saying that Lakeville is more religious having strong cliques. Is that true?

In our case: we are foreigners (Eastern Europe) with no connections in MN, very science-inclined as opposed to religious and with Muslim names (not practicing). The kinds of things we enjoy are watching "Universe", visiting Planetariums and star-gazing in our telescope. Will we be burned as witches in Lakeville? :-)

Commute is to U of M in downtown.

Thanks!

I don't know who you are talking to but I would not say that anything you have heard about either place is true. Houses are less expensive in Lakeville because it is further out. The biggest differences are that the Eden Prairie area is a lot busier, more traffic, schools are huge. Lakeville is more rural, smaller schools, quieter area to live.

Eden Prairie and Lakeville are both fine. You'll have a much easier commute in Falcon Heights, Arden Hills or Shoreview though.

If you accept that the highest correlation to religious and cultural tolerance is income level, then Lakeville and Eden Prairie would both be very tolerant places to live. Granted if you plop down in their trailer parks or across the street from the section 8 apartment complexes it would probably be a different story. Living on the border of Lakeville myself, I can say anecdotally that the majority of my neighbors are christian but don't attend church services.

My goodness, would you care to back such an outrageous statement up with a link to some evidence such as, you know, a scientific study? This poor dumb Christian is just sitting here in my double wide in south Minneapolis trying to figure out whether your intolerant remark about "cultural tolerance" intentionally ironic or unintentional evidence of prejudice.

After doing a very quick Google search, it appears that some articles actually say the opposite:

Religious Tolerance: Education and Income

I found one paper which appears to agree based on the summary, but it isn't free:

I'd be interested in seeing one of these threads. Lakeville is a newer community so I don't see how a "clique" could even exist.

Most of MN is "Christian". I'd predict a minority of people attend services on a regular basis. If we exclude Christmas services and weddings, I'd bet most Minnesotans don't go to church.

Probably because Lakeville is hella far away and people there are realizing they're sick of spending all their money at Fleet Farm, Super America and Burger King

And yes, Lakeville is by and large Christian conservative.

Lakeville and Eden Prarire are both Anywhere, USA. You'll hate living in one just as much as the other.
