Hola Gaberio
Yes, it does get cold in MN, however there are alot of employment opportunities here to keep you busy. There is a Mexican culture here that is located on Lake Street in Minneapolis. Alot of Mexican restaurants etc. Nuevo Rodeo is a very popular nightclub for the Latino community. It is also located on Lake Street. Check out their website. Also, the west side of St Paul, just south of St Paul has a vibrant Mexican community with colorful architecture, good restaurants etc. You will find a place to fit in and feel at home once you move here. Welcome to Minnesota. |

If winters here were better, I honestly believe that we would double in population. Hispanics aren't as huge as other cities, but there is a fairly large contigency, and you wouldn't feel out of place. As said above, East lake St (Mpls.), The West Side of Saint Paul (the south side of the river, across from CBD Saint Paul) Richfield and Shakopee also have large ratios of Hispanics. (I would not recommend Richfield Schools) Minnesota schools, on the whole, are some of the best performing in the nation. Education is deeply valued here. The economy is generally sound and stable. (Slow and steady growth over a number of years. alot of good, major employers) It isn't like Las Vegas where anyone can get a job, but for the most part, people can find something. If you overlook winters, Mpls. is, IMO, one of the best large cities in which to raise a family. Good luck

Minnesota is a great choice for relocation. Jobs, education, recreation opprotunities are excellent. My favorite Mexican food comes from El Burrito Mercado, a grocery store on Concord Street in St. Paul. They have a cafeteria with excellent choices, but no margaritas.
Winter is no problem for me as it seldom goes below 68 degrees -- except when I go outdoors which doesn't happen much in winter. There are plenty indoor opportunities in MN in the cold months. |

Yeah, Minnesota winters are tough some times, however, they dont seem to be as bad as normal in the last decade. I think the last normal winter we had was in 96 0r 97. Otherwise, we've had a few cold spells (0's), but dont last too long. Not sure if its global warming or what. But the winter is a pay off for the awsome spring, summer, and fall. I love the mid-west weater way more than the Southwest. (we actually have lots of natural vegetation here) And Minneapolis, you should have no problem finding good mexican restaurants. On lake street theres even a Columbian restaurant (at least its run by a columbian lady) that is delicious.

I don't know if there are hispanic specific neighborhoods in the western suburbs of Crystal/New Hope area but I see a large number of them at the stores in the area and there are 2 panaderķas and at least one store that specializes in Mexican goods. El Loro sure has some great food also.
Seems to be plenty of job openings in the area as well. Lots of inexpensive family things to do in the winter both indoors and out. |

Thank you for all your comments the more I read about minneapolis the more im looking foward to get over there.Like I said coming from El Paso Tx, and it is a calm city but theres no employment oppurtunities over here is very hard to get a good job.I really want the best for my family so my main focus is the schools and of course the employment opportunities I've send a couples of resumes on line and I was very surprsie to be getting respond within less than 24 hours.Over here in El Paso is very hard is mostly of who you know in the company to see if you get in and not necesary about your experience. So im really looking foward to rellocate over there to Minneapolis, meanwhile I would still appreciate information on the city like I said my main focus is schools and the neighboorhoods and of course those goods mexicans resaturants.I've heard theres good places at Nicollet Street is that true and if so which ones?

Since I don't have kids, I don't know about the schools, however regarding restaurants, Nicollet Avenue has what is called"Eat Street".. It is a street almost a half a mile long filled with restaurants. There are some good Mexican places on that strip. Sorry can't remember the names off the top of my head, however you will find them easily when you come here.
If you list a few neighborhoods that you may be interested in, I am sure that we can give you advice on whether those are good or not. There are some areas here that you don't want to raise kids in, as there are drug activities going on etc. |

![]() ![]() ![]() LOL . . . .yeah, watch out for those 8-foot-tall, 500 lb Hispanics! Good thing they grow 'em smaller in MN! I guess the cold stunts their growth? ![]() ![]() |
