Moscow on the Hill - Russian Restaurant, St Paul Minnesota, Russian Vodka

I've eaten here a couple times and thought it was great. Couldn't speak on the authenticity, as the closest I've been to Russia is London.

A former colleague who'd spent some years in Russia said Moscow on the Hill was quite good

Not food or shopping, but if museums are also on your list, Minneapolis is home to the Museum of Russian Art.

Two places I'd recommend. Russian Teahouse, couple blocks east of Fairview Ave on University in St Paul. And Kramarczuk's in NE Minneapolis on Hennepin Ave. Both places are my favorites for food from Russia and Eastern Europe. Sadly, I don't think we have anything Yugoslavian, though during the wars in the 90's we did get some Bosnian refugees. Since they are Muslim, I think they go to the many halal shops in Columbia Heights and Fridley.

It's not one of the countries on your list, but there's a Ukranian deli in Coon Rapids. They have some baked goods and groceries with what I presume is Russian written on them.

NorthEast Mpls in general has long been considered the hub of Eastern European culture/society in the Twin Cities.

Agreed...Russian Orthodox churches are found in NE, though NE is generally more Polish - oriented. That said, the local culture used to call Northeast Minneapolis "Nordeast". The anecdotal story is Eastern European immigrants generally had a more difficult time pronouncing the "th" sound in Northeast(from their native tongues, kind of like many English speaking Americans don't roll r's particularly well when trying Spanish - we were simply not trained from birth to use our tongues that way in speaking). Not sure if that's true or not, but the anecdote I heard.

I was riding a bus on West 7th Street in St Paul and saw that Kiev Foods is still in Sibley Plaza. I wrote what was probably the first local review of it maybe 15 years ago. I considered it a very interesting food business. It is at 2500 W 7th Street in St Paul.
