Growing up in the Twin Cities, we used to do all sort so things: skating, boot hockey, sliding on hills, making snow forts, playing snow football or snow soccer, cross-country skiiing, ice fishing (not so bad if you have an nice heated fishing house, and actually kinda cool in the daytime because the water under the ice is brighter than the inside of the fishhouse so you can see the fish way down there). Snowmobiling.

Do you have indoor rec centers? We are from Atlanta and we can spend most of the year outdoors except for maybe 2 months. I am worried about being couped up in the house for 6 months with a 2 yr old. Any idea or suggestions would be great!!!

I'm a 40-year Minnesota resident who is now down here in winterless Atlanta. A Minnesota winter won't be as bad as you think. Really. :-) Kids absolutely love snow, and there are all sorts of things to do with it. A pile of snow with a kid-sized tunnel in it that is soaked in water and left to freeze overnight will be strong enough to last for a couple of months even with kids climbing all over it.

Well, there is nothing to do in the Twin cities if you are not into sledding, skiing, ice-fishing. It's a sad place to be for the next 6 months...

If it gets desperately, bitterly cold, there's always Camp Snoopy!
Parts of the Apple Valley zoo are indoors. So is the Children's Museum and Science Museum in downtown St Paul. And don't worry about driving - usually it's beautiful sunny day when the thermometer drops to -30º.

Ice skating, play hockey, indoor soccer, indoor golf, inline skate at the metrodome, snowshoe, tubing, ski jumping, even downhill ski.
Winter is beautiful. The blanket of snow hushes everything. One of my favorite things to do when the ice is good is to take my bike and ride it on the lakes. (with studded tires of course)
