I don't know you personally so this is somewhat of a generalization, but also true is many aspects.....

It might have something to do with your personality, where you are from, and your culture. I noticed you mentioned being from Italy in another post. Italians settled more on the east coast in the United States and are more like New Yorkers. That area of the country has a more direct and in your face cuture and personalities to match.

Minnesota was settled more by Scandinavians. Scandinavians have more of a quiet, non-confrontational, mind our own business culture. That would be just about the opposite of many Italians/NYC area people. Janteloven/Jantelagen still exists to this day in Minnesota. If you don't know what that is, look it up. Many locals raised in the Scandinavian cuture here, probably just don't want to hang out with a possibly louder, more direct, or confrontational Italian or east coaster.

This might also explain why you get along with the guys from Boston and LA more than native Minnesotans.

My girlfriend is from Duluth and she struggles as well to maintain tight friendships with the locals, I mean with people she have known for a long time. All the locals I met were too busy with their life and friends to follow up with me. Even after I tried to create some sort of friendship. they are like "let's get together, we should see each other sometime" and you never hear back.

Thats funny I went to grad school at the U as well. Nice school but to me the thing that bothers me about minneapolis is that everyone who grew up there thinks its the best place in the world. I mean its a good city, but its not great!

I hate those types too. Perhaps they've never gotten out of the Midwest before
