much of North Oaks is very exclusive with mansions, large lot sizes, set back in the woods. very much like being in Northern Minnesota but less than 10-miles from Downtown St. Paul and less than 15-miles from Downtown Minneapolis. A lot of CEO's and top executives from the states most well known corporations live in North Oaks. Vice-President Walter Mondale lived there for many years, and I believe former Boston Celtic player and current Houston Rockets head coach Kevin McHale still lives in North Oaks. Many of railroad barron James J. Hill's family members still have their estates in North Oaks.

You would have far more kids for your children to play with if you buy a house directly across Ramsey County Road 96 in Vadnais Heights White Bear Township which are both in the same zip code as North Oaks 55127 and still go to the same schools as students in North Oaks: Turtle Lake Elementary in Shoreview ; Chippewa Middle School in North Oaks and Mounds View High School in Arden Hills . All three schools have increasing enrollment as well after experiencing falling enrollment more than a decade ago.

The suburb of Dellwood zip code 55110 which is in the Mahtomedi School District, along the northern and eastern shores of White Bear Lake ,is very much like North Oaks. Wealthy, semi-rural and very exclusive.

Yes the large lots kind of prevent kids from just going outside and finding other kids to play with as school enrollment mentioned shows. But the parks are so close what difference does it make and there are kids, not just in every home. There are currently $400, 500 and 600,000 home for sale in North Oaks. That is not much more than other high end neighborhoods, but like mn55110 said, it has that up north feel. It's very well worth it.

I drove through North Oaks recently and a lot of it looked really run down.

We took a second look at the house, and when we showed up there were 6 other vehicles of realtors/buyers. The sellers were told to expect 3 offers this past weekend. So we didn't make one of our own, since it seemed doubtful that we could get a good-enough deal on a multiple offer situation. Plus there was a pool that hadn't been used in over 5 years and a septic system that we were to assume needed replacing. The 1.5 acre lot was appealing though.

Yes it will probably go fast and have a bit of a bidding war. Keep looking. Good luck.

I grew up in North Oaks in the 90s/early 2000s. It was a great place to grow up. Lots are isolated, and not as many kids there. But I loved the trail system, the privacy, the trees.

Lots of hype over Bearpath and Minnetonka.. but after having been to those places too, North Oaks beats the pants off of them.

Great city.

Great city.
Minnetonka is a fairly large suburb. It doesn't have a single flavor.
