Smile Moving to Minneapolis from Indianapolis

We are expecting a move to Minneapolis this summer. We have been looking at Eden Praire and Rosemount/Apple Valley. Would somebody mind giving me a comparison of the two cities. We are mainly interested in schools, convience, and housing prices. What can we expect to pay for a 4 bedroom 3 bath house in a nice, kid friendly neighborhood?

Are there any other notable neighborhoods located near Golden Valley that would be worth a look? My husband has only traveled to this area on business so we aren't that familiar with it.

350-450k in those towns less in rosemont but if your working in mpls your commute would be road rage!

schools in general are very good in MN. of course inner city and minority neighborhoods tend to be poorer.

Golden Valley is a great town as is st. louis park the entire west side of MPLS they all border each other.

eden prairie is a ways out also like Apple and rosemont. if you like to sit in traffic more power to you!

You would be hard pressed to find a house for under $400K for what you are looking for in Eden Prairie, probably closer to $500K and up. Rosemount you will find what you are looking for in the $400 range. It is a definite buyers market right now and might be the time to get a good deal on a house. I agree that your commute would be interesting unless you work off hours, like going in early, getting off early. Your commute from EP to Golden Valley would be easier but not all that much.

To compare the two towns, EP is, well, known to be more snobby, not to say that everyone there is like that but the general stereotype for the town is that. Rosemount has more of a small town feel, less suburbany and more home towny. Personally, I wouldn't live in Apple Valley but that is just me.

The schools are good, as they are in pretty much all of the suburbs. I would give a slight edge to the Rosemount district for quality of schools, but in reality, there isn't much difference. A lot of it comes down to what your interests are or those of your children. If you have sons that are outstanding football players, EP is your school, however, it is very competitive to make the team. If your childern lean toward other things, music for example, Rosemount would be your choice. Both schools have a lot to offer.

As far as conveniences go, both town have everything you need or have easy access to what you need.

Other areas to consider are Hopkins, Minnetonka, Wayzeta, or pretty much any of the western subs. They all have good schools and are closer to Golden Valley. The western subs, however, are the most expensive in the Twin Cities right now.
