I am making the trip to move a student to the University next week and wondered if anyone knows of a place to get some University of MN clothing (sweat shirts, T's, sports ware, etc) besides the campus bookstore? Is there any of the consignment or second-hand type stores that would have some of the University type merchandise so we don't have to pay $15 for a maroon and gold T shirt?

Also the same for a few winter clothing basic's. Is it going to be too early to find much selection of winter outer wear at the end of August ? Any place to look at now before the parents drive back south and if not, at least to tell my student to go check out maybe later in October ? (I know Target may be an option in a few months)

We have no winter clothing as our schools just cancel the classes even if there is a forecast of a snow dusting for the next day. Everyone has said just to wait until we get to Minneapolis so that is what we plan to do. So while most of you will be going to the State Fair, we'll be out trying to get a basic set up of gloves, parka's and hiking boots!

You can find U of MN stuff all over the place, Kohl's, Target, etc. but it's going to be $15 for a t-shirt. You might get lucky and find something at a consignment shop or Goodwill but is $15 expensive for a school shirt??

Winter clothing is starting to appear in stores. He won't really need much for a while, maybe a sweatshirt for the cool evenings. We are looking at heat indexes in the 100's this week . I haven't seen any winter coats yet but they will be out probably after all the back to school stuff is gone.

You might try Burlington Coat Factory if you don't mind digging. Sometimes among all the weird shiny designer stuff there are some Columbia jackets on their racks.

Put an ad on craigslist and perhaps some folks would be willing to donate there lightly used clothing. I donated all of my clothes when I left.
