I forgot to mention too what is the furthest that good public transportation will service? I didn't know that there were pub transport options out into eden praire, bloomington, and some of those suburbs right outside of the city.

I feel it might be tricky not having a car though because an employer might be close to public transport or be in a patch of land you need a car to drive to. I definitely can't afford a car right now...

Most of the suburbs have some kind of bus access or at least a car pool access to Minneapolis/St. Paul or other places. The farther out you go, the more likely it is that towns are smaller and you could walk or ride a bike too.

Kind of. I don't think people cared about that so much as they cared in the practical sense there is a benefit to being part of the larger Hennepin county system.

As better traveled metro residents have always known, Hennepin County Libraries were every bit as good as Minneapolis Libraries. So why compete when they can cooperate? Why should the smaller city duplicate a service that the county also offers?

IMO, the Minneapolis/Hennepin county library merger was a logistical inevitability in the long run.
