I want to thank you all for your comments! I am getting ready for my move to Minneapolis, hopefully this coming January or February. I've done a lot of research, and I'm pretty sure that I want to give this place a try.

Have you had a chance to visit yet?

BTW, I just read this thread for the first time, and there are no apartments at 7th and Park. That's where HCMC is located (note their helipad on the roof of the parking garage), plus a small body shop and (i think) a print shop. Park is the 700 block on the numbered "streets" in South Minneapolis though. And at this point, live on Park south of 10th street at your peril. Still too many slums on/directly off that street for my liking.

Nope. I'm flying, and I'm bringing what fits in my suitcase. Everything else I'll have family and friens ship for me. I won't ship any furniture, though. Too expensive!

Are Stevens Park Square and Loring Park good areas to bet on? That seems to be the part that I'm most interested in. I did visit my cousin last March, but she lives in St. Paul, and I didn't get to see much of Minneapolis.

I would prefer Loring Park, and I think most people would also. Either is a good choice.

MCAD is a great school. Not sure about your specific program, but the school as a whole has a solid reputation, and attracts people from all over the place. As far as being a college freshman, I assume it's similar to many other colleges of its kind. It's fairly small and they do have campus housing, so you should have an easy time meeting plenty of potential friends. As to to whether or not the program itself is the right fit for you (and given the cost, I'd make sure that it is before attending!), that's a question for those who work in your specific field. I think most people attending college know very few, if any, people at their new school, so almost everyone will also be starting from scratch. Consider it a new adventure and a change of pace from the west coast. College is the perfect time to experiment with new places and new experiences, so might as well go for it!

I'm from the area, still live in the area, I've lived in Mpls for a few years and I find it to be boring for a 'city'

By the time the OP moves here: It will be like a city without an NFL football team.
