Nope, close though.

Somalia as a First Language. Or for your east africaners, Swahili as a First Language. At least spanish speakers try their hardest to communicate, most somalis i've encountered just yell their errouneous language and get frustrated when You don't understand, like I should know Somali growing up in the Twin Cities...

I have come across first-generation immigrants from East Africa (Somalia, Ethiopia, etc.) who don't have a firm grasp on the English language yet. More times than not I've seen this with the older population. However, in general I've found that alot of them speak English really well, so I don't at all agree with this generalization.

Knke is out of line here. Do you know any Somalians or other Africans? I work with a half dozen in my hotel, and although they speak Arabic to each other, they speak English to me.

lol they are loud too!

The impressions I have gotten when I first moved here (barely able to string two sentences together in English) was they (students tended to see you as dumb if you don't speak English). I remember one time a student asked me what time it was and I told him its 10:00 o'clock (4 PM referred here) and he looked at funny then I realized what I told him. In the west, a new day starts at midnight where I came from starts at dawn. In Algebra class on probability of having a different pizza toppings (a question I still remember).... pizza toppings? what [the heck] is that! hahaha I am boring for I am bored, sheet of paper (not emphasizing the 'ee' sound enough heck I couldn't understand "object in mirror are closer than they appear" when I first got here. The funny thing is that I much rather read or here conversations (lectures, news, discussions etc) in English as supposed to my native language. I find English to be very descriptive reach in vocabularies.
