i pretty much agree with this quote from the article:

“All these claims about development and improving the economy are all just baloney”

I know you're just fooling around, but he's proposing that the interest on these bonds not be exempt from Federal taxes. States would still be free to exempt them from state income taxes.

Well, very good for the Minneapolis-St. Paul area. Even this Sounders fan will definitely appreciate that. Better Mpls than Sacramento.

Now I just wish they wouldn't go by the name Minnesota United. We already has a DC United.

with Miami unable to build Lord Beckham his stadium, it's entirely possible that Sacramento could still happen

I would have no problem with it if the proposal was extended to all for-profit entities, not just sports franchises. Eliminating all public subsidies, including TIF, for any for-profit enterprise would be the consistent thing to do.

I agree, it shouldn't be limited to just sports.

The Premier League has Manchester United, Newcastle United, and West Ham United. It's a very common football club naming convention all over the world.

I love the name Minnesota United, but I do think Minneapolis United or Twin Cities United would be better. All our teams (except the Saints) are named for the state but none of them play outside the Twin Cities.

Well the Vikings and Twins fan bases are huge outside the metro. North Dakota probably should have paid for the new Vikes stadium.

I'd prefer "Minneapolis", given that the city's residents have contributed in vastly disproportionate amounts to pro sports in the region since the 1960s. However, for reasons of local political sensibilities, I can't imagine the moniker being anything other than "Minnesota"--please not "Twin Cities"!
