Do I have to increase my budget or should I wait couple of months or should I venture in Eden Prarie ? (Commute time target is under 25 mins from Edina and Fridley- work locations.)
Is the housing stock low for resale homes in above neighborhoods ?
If you want an upper middle class neighborhood, $400K isn't going to be close to enough. Probably looking at 600K+ for a newer or updated house.

You could also venture into Eden Prairie - but depending on your appetite for a commute this may be too far from Fridley. Housing is interesting here - my suggestion would be to list your must haves - commute requirements and budget and start there.

With the current market, in my opinion, your best option would be to purchase a home rather than a townhome. Townhomes can come along with association fees, which can add up, and it's money you can save by simply doing it yourself. I just purchased a home in Minneapolis and the market is definitely competitive for buyers. I'd definitely keep your options open, as far as location, open since the difficulty level in purchasing is high right now. When it comes to upper middle class neighborhoods, Eden Prairie and Edina definitely make the list. Eden Prairie homes tend to be newer construction and Edina falls in the older-with-character category. Both cities have nice school systems. I don't mention Plymouth or Chanhassen because my knowledge in those areas is limited. I'd also expand your search to West Bloomington. The west side of town comes with nicer, larger homes and the Bloomington school district is great! (Just a suggestion). When I was buying a home, I found this tool that helped me learn more about the Twin Cities neighborhoods. It's pretty helpful. Also, look into condos. Nearly all condos are new or new-ish. There are many popping up around Edina and Minneapolis. They have a cool modern vibe too, which is nice. They are bit more limited on space, but I'm not sure if that's a huge factor for you.

Inventory is a little low now compared to this time last year. My team just listed an executive town home in Plymouth off of burl oaks. If you go with single family it is fairly easy to hire out for lawn/snow maintenance. Good luck!
