Future of coon rapids with commuter rail in late 2009...
Hi all,
I'm a newbie here n this is my very first post. I live in coon rapids very close to Riverdale park n ride (within a mile). If you guys know northstar commuter rail is going to start hopefully in late 2009 which will be on this route..I mean will stop at riverdale. I love this area bcoz I'm close to riverdale mall..which if anybody has visited here would vouch for...also I'm close to mercy hospital n have a nice park just 1 block from my house. But I work in st. paul downtown n due to long commute now planning to move to little canada which is closer to st. paul.
My first question is how good is little canada for a family with school going kids and second question is that, I've been hearing, once the commuter rail starts the price of coon rapids area will go up....is that true? Wht does everybody think? I know that housing market has hit its lowest but still ...will the commuter rail thing will help this area or it will bring more crime here? just curious...Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Sunsoul

Well, this might be an obvious one, but the commuter rail will no doubt improve the marketability of coon rapids for the very reason that you want to leave coon rapids - it will make the commute a lot easier. so, maybe if you wait it out, you'll not only be able to see if housing values go up, you'll also be able to take the commuter rail yourself and see if it makes things better.
I have heard that the criminal element has had their eyes set on Coon Rapids for some time now - a rail line there might be just what they've been waiting for...

I can't wait for this brilliant idea of a commuter rail to start because it will help so much to not have to sit in traffic!! This will also reduce traffic if people are intelligent enough to use this resource!!

Any good criminal owns a car. Public transportation does allow homeless people to move about cheaply. Overall, it's a good thing and will increase values in the area.

yeah but what homeless person wants to go to Coon Rapids? Most civil minded individuals with homes dont even want to go to Coon Rapids, so whats there that attracts a homeless demographic?

What?? In case you forgot, you are posting on the "Minneapolis-St. Paul" Forum pages; in my opinion Coon Rapids/ Anoka area posts belong in the "Minnesota" and not "minneapolis-st. paul" forums - it misleads and misinforms people that actually want to move to the "city" that these suburbs somehow qualify.

Oh, what crap. Suburban areas are perfectly on-topic for forums about the Twin Cities metro area, which is what the Minneapolis/St. Paul forum was created for.
Keep in mind that the two main cities combined are only roughly 1/6 of the total population of the area. Only 16.67% of the postings here should be about either of the two cities.

LOL - you called me out and broke it down for me, admittedly I jumped to the gun too quickly and got a little urban-centric on everybody...and you're right, this forum wouldn't be nearly half as interesting were it not for the city-suburban clashes going on everywhere. By the way RC, i see you posting on this forum a lot but your location is in GA...what gives, homesick transplant?
