Speaking of Burnsville and "going down hill," I really like the view of downtown Minneapolis that you get in Burnsville when going down towards the river valley on I-35. I also really enjoyed playing shows at The Garage in Burnsville when I was in high school. I'm not sure if that place is still there, but it at least was a great place for youth to enjoy or play local music.

Don't know much else about the town though...

I remember the first time I saw that view. I said "Wow" out loud. I see it at least 5 times a week now on my way to work in Edina and it never gets old.

Another great view is coming over the river on 110 where you can see both the Minneapolis and St. Paul skylines at once. That one is obviously not in Burnsville, but spectacular nonetheless.

The question of culture, entertainment, boredom, excitement, etc., are all subjective. I used to live in Burnsville (though that was about 20 years ago) and loved it. But... it has changed in ways I personally don't care for.

What I remember liking the best: The convenience of having all the shopping I needed condensed to a small area so I never had to go far or get stuck in rush hour to shop locally. It's also a nice place to start from if you want to go for a scenic drive. You get to skip all the city traffic to get out of town, unless you're heading north, that is.

What I remember liking the least: The expense of renting an apartment was higher and the traffic into Minneapolis or St. Paul to work (and home again) was pretty bad. I'm sure this has only gotten worse.

OTOH, the transit connections have gotten much better, so if you work in the downtowns, the express buses can be a good option.

It really isn't. I work in Burnsville, and it's fine. In fact, in many cities, it would be considered a nice or even very nice suburb by pretty much everyone (and it's definitely better than some other Twin Cities suburbs). People focus on things like some of the lower-quality apartments, while forgetting that it also has really nice $500K houses. Overall I'd say the area is going to gradually improve, rather than decline.

Agreed about Eagan, though proportionally, I'd say it's the same as Apple Valley in terms of apartments. AV's are just less visible. And it is more ethnically diverse, but that's really not saying much -- it's merely mostly white, as opposed to extremely white.

Burnsville is a underrated area. The great thing about Burnsville, is that you won't have to travel far if your looking for good restaurants or great shopping. Burnsville has it's own shopping district, which can compete with any other suburb. Definitely a gem of the twin cities area..

Nothing wrong with Burnsville if you don't need to commute north on a daily basis. Otherwise all you need is at hand.

Years ago, two friends and my realtor discouraged my family to move in the Burnsville school district as the schools were terribly rated. So I never bothered looking at houses in Burnsville. Well, now, we don't live in Burnsville. But every time I need to go to Burnsville, I think of my realtor and my two friends and what they said....too bad and a shame as Burnsville overall by its first impression it looks it's a very nice looking community with matured trees, hilly, vast parks, very nice downtown, lovely neighborhoods, just a nice overall vibe. Too bad its schools has a horrible reputation.
