Default Looking to move to Plymouth, Maple grove

I will be coming to Minn-St Paul next week and looking it over to move to.. My potential job is in Plymouth.. my wife and I are 51 and have raised the kids..

I am looking at renting an apt/condo in or near Plymouth.. Ramsey up north is one option but can move most anywhere around Plymouth.. we are interested in nice parks, resteraunts, theater and good parking garages...

Does anyone have a good recommendation for nice apt living, or condo rentals.

We are looking to pay 1200-1400 or around that price and also would be interested in commute times {real} from those areas to Plymouth...

We live in Kansas and understand the winter deal.

We don't look to bring animals nor do we smoke...our main interest would be good neighborhood as the kids are gone and schools don't interest us.

My wife likes balconies as she needs a lot of light in the winter. I would like a very nice gym located in the property.

Thanks for any replies...

Plymouth info: I am a Realtor and live in Plymouth. My kid went to Wayzata High School, which is one of the top schools in the country. There's lots to do around here and there is a Lifetime Fitness with two great pools smack dab in the middle of town. The shopping is pretty good. The restaurants are just OK. It's your typical Applebee's/Chili's kind of fare for the most part. It's a great place to raise a family with lots to do for families. As far as rentals go, there are plenty to choose from. Go to TenantMarket.com and set up your criteria. It's sort of like a Match.com where the lessee and the lessor hook up when there's a match. I've used it on my own rentals and it works like a charm. Best wishes!

I have lived in Plymouth my entire life and strongly suggest you do not move here. It is very typical suburban, boring, with nothing to do, no unique restaurants or shops at all. I would suggest Maple Grove or Minnetonka instead, there is more to do with more trails etc.

Medicine lake apartments is kinda nice, but no laundry in the unit. I have friends who live there. One block is condo, one block is rental apartments. You guys have access to a dock if that's your thing.

Default We are looking at Stone Creek

We are looking at Stone Creek in Medicine Lake, The Plantation at Hopkins, and Parkers Lake so far....and Parkside at Medicine Lake...

Katz... I am 51 and can drive anywhere for resteraunts.. We do want to live next to trails and lakes to walk so we are looking at other areas... one thing we may decide is to look at Hopkins to be closer to the airport as I will probably fly a lot...

If anyone knows anything about the above mentioned apt complexes we would appreciate it...

Have you checked out the St Louis Park/Hopkins area? I used to live in St Louis Park and it's so central, but yet not crazy busy like downtown or uptown. Plus you are close to just about everything. They have some new condos on Excelsior and Grand. I would check those out.

Oh, when I lived in St Louis Park I also worked in Plymouth. My drive was about 20 minutes.

Thanks you for the Vickburg village info.... I am not the decider of course as she who must be obeyed will be arriving with me on Sat... we will look at some 4-5 places Sun-Mon and after I interview and see if the company and I can get together will I be in the marketplace for a rental...

Our main concern will be this will be a new experience for us as we have always lived on a dirt road or isolated hobby farms..

We have lived in many different locales including Montana so the winter is not something we dread....

City life is going to be different as for the last 30 years we haven't had neighbors closer than 1/2 mile. But we decided it is time to stop the woodcutting, gardening, chicken raising, and just live a little and picked minneapolis as we heard it has a lot of culture and theaters and arts...

We are kind of looking forward to the walks along the trails around the parks and plays and different types of resteraunts...

My job will be an executive one so we will have a little extra money to enjoy the cultural diversity of Minneapolis...

I notice a lot of negative comments on these blogs about how boring, cold, crime, blah blah blah Minnesota is. I have traveled a lot in my life and only say for me life is what you make it...In Louisiana if you don't like mosqitoes, bugs of all kinds, gnats, humidity and stinky paper mill air you would absolutely hate it there... if you like cajun food, fun music, warm winters, and friendly people you would love it...

I sure the same can be said for Minnesota...

If the choice is between Plymouth and Maple Grove, I'd live in the town you're going to work. Plymouth may be boring (the retail and restaraunt scene is pretty underwhelming and lame), but Maple Grove is a very close drive. You have to drive to your job every day, but you probably won't be going shopping or out to eat every night.

Plymouth is also right by Minnetonka and Golden Valley. The fact that there isn't much within the city boundaries of Plymouth isn't much of an issue in my opinion. So what if there is "nothing to do in Plymouth". Drive a couple more miles.
