Talking Places for 20-something female to hang out

I have heard uptown is the place to be for people my age to hand out (I'm 22). I will be working in the downtown area but also-I am wondering if there are any places close to where I will be living to hang out for people my age. I will be living in Coon Rapids. Any suggestions or places near by?? I don't know very many people in the area so I'm hoping to actually meet some friendly people too!!

In Coon Rapids? uhh pretty much nowhere. I think theres a Grumpy's there, but it attracts more of a redneck demographic than the MSP ones.

Uptown tends to be younger folk.

depends on what you're into.

most of the arty/hipster/indie/punk/trend-setting/students/beautiful peope-type folks hang out in (some parts of) uptown, NE mpls, and downtown mpls. this is where most of the museums, art galleries/spaces, coffee shops, theaters, clubs, cool bars, local music, and parties are located.

you aren't going to find much out in coon rapids. only after hours stuff out there is sports bars, shopping at big box stores, and chain restaurants. oh, and movie theaters.

coon rapids isn't terribly far though, it's about a 30 min drive to most places.

i highly recommend thrifyhipster.com. despite the word "hipster", it covers what's what for just about anyone who doesn't want to sit at home!

also check out the calendar listings in the city pages (also available online). comes out every wednesday, and is a pretty comprehensive listing of everything going on in the city.

meetup.com is good too, to meet other people who like the same things as you.

Although I'm a city person myself and more than a decade past 22, there are plenty of people your age living, working and hanging out in the suburbs. I'm not too familiar with Coon Rapids or Anoka, but I'm sure you will find the typical bars, shopping centers, etc. Since you'll be working in Midtown, however, you will probably meet people at work who live all over the place.

Try Blaine and Anoka, too. I love Bellas. They have great waitresses there. Also, in Anoka, there's Billy's. Lots of local haunts around to get to know the regular folks.

Not to get weird, but I recently went to a funeral in Anoka and, after, we had a ball at the Legion. Who knew?

Grumpy's off of Coon Rapids blvd and Scoops off of Foley blvd. Both are blue collar sports bars.

Bebop's and Venue aren't bad - they are in the same building just west of 65 on 109th

I've never been to Pov's in Andover but i think that's a busy place as well.

take a short drive to maple grove and go to the claddagh irish pub, lots of yourger people in there too. in fact maple grove has a very young population in general.

maybe grumpy's has improved but it used to be sort of a dive. i shot darts there for a time and while it was a good time, it wasn't a place i'd want to spend much time at.

unfortunately in the north metro you are going to see a lot of bars that attract the 40+ crowd. don't waste your time at places like Povlitsky's, Robert's, Time Out, etc.

i like are jake's in new brighton (often there at happy hour).

and if you haven't tried space aliens (65 and 99th) that place is pretty cool. i don't think the bar is that popular because the restaurant draws in a lot of kids, but the food is good.

the smoking ban has made things really nice up here. every bar used to be a chimney and it's nice to chase those folks outside so the rest of us don't have to put up with that crap.

I'm 24... and I can say I pretty much only go out Downtown and Uptown. I occasionaly end up in Dinkytown, Grand Ave (St.Paul), or NE Mpls. there are good places in random spots elsewhere but they are the exception. the name of the game here is pretty much bar hopping - pick an area and move around all night. Downtown has everything, uptown almost as much, dinkytown and grand ave are almost strictly college. I can honestly say I have never visited coon rapids for anything. The thing about the Twin cities... it's sprawled out, most of the suburbs are just houses, parks, target stores, etc. When we shop, work, play, etc. we travel to where we need to be. I live in another suburb and I only occasionally go to a local bar like green mill or something because... 1. it's close 2. my fellow losers who still live at home go there too. hope that helps!

Smile Coon Rapids Bars

I am a 21 year old Female who lives in Coon Rapids. The only thing to really do out here is go to the bars. Time out in Blaine, Diamonds in Ramsey and Rapids off of coon rapids blvd and university all have ladies night every thursday. Im pretty sure Rapids is 18+ on thursdays too. Its a new place but ive heard that its pretty fun. Almost everyone I know goes to a place in Anoka called Jackson street bar on the weekends. Its kind of a whole in the wall but its alot of fun, drinks are strong and it tends to be alot of younger people on the weekends. Povs in Andover always has stuff going on too, you can just go to their website to see what type of things are going on but they sometimes have a cover. Besides that there nothing to do but eat and shop O
