It has now been six days since a 10 year old African American boy from Crystal went missing. I noticed a small inside page article about his disappearance in the Strib on day three which was the first news account I noticed. I thought at time that this was a big deal and wondered why the news was so downplayed by the media. Then yesterday, on day five, the local TV news outlets had their first significant reports. As far as I could tell, they had largely ignored it until then.

Had this had been a 10 year old blond girl from Eden Prairie, I'm certain there would have been an immediate Amber Alert and massive TV news coverage including desperate and gasping reporting from Esme Murphy.

No offense, but that is just an absolute bunch of race baiting nonsense.

Other than your "hunch" that the media would be more excited about a missing white kid than they are a missing black kid, do you have any stats/comps/figure to base this on? Or, does your baseless allegation just happen to support your chosen narrative?

Apparently, the first two media websites I went to think this is front page worthy:

Minnesota News and Minneapolis-St. Paul Weather - KMSP-TV

Minneapolis and St. Paul, MN | News, Weather and Sports | kare11.com

Sorry for taking such offense to your comment. However, it drives me crazy when people scream racism without any basis. Not only do I not enjoy reading things that aren't true, but more importantly these false allegations take away from cases where there really is racism involved.

the typical racism cry.... racism is very serious and should never be tolerated. to mention it so often though dilutes its meaning

this was reported by at least one of the local tv stations the day after it happened, to suggest otherwise is simply bs or you're choosing to not be informed.

Police Continue Search for Missing 10-Year-Old Crystal Boy | KSTP TV - Minneapolis and St. Paul

I recall seeing it at that time and there was not an Amber Alert emitted and I recall that there was some inference that the boy might have been with someone he knew. However, that certainly doesn't mean he wasn't in danger.

Officials also say the case does not meet the criteria to issue an Amber Alert.

Summary of Department of Justice Recommended Criteria:
  • There is reasonable belief by law enforcement that an abduction has occurred.
  • The law enforcement agency believes that the child is in imminent danger of serious bodily injury or death.
  • There is enough descriptive information about the victim and the abduction for law enforcement to issue an AMBER Alert to assist in the recovery of the child.
  • The abduction is of a child aged 17 years or younger.
  • The child’s name and other critical data elements, including the Child Abduction flag, have been entered into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) system.

It's partly a matter of race, it's partly a matter of gender, it's partly a matter of class, it's partly a matter of subjective appearances.
Missing white woman syndrome - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Of course, you can't talk about this or you're a race-baiter. You know, just because. And the fact that studies have demonstrated that this disparity exists doesn't matter - you can't talk about it.

Further - in a case of massively supreme irony - it'll be labelled 'political correctness' by the very people demanding you not talk about it. People who also, clearly, don't even comprehend the meaning of the term 'political correctness'.

More information for those not falling all over themselves to pretend that the media is just as intensely interested in unattractive lower-class non-white males who disappear...

Wow.

This is the first time in my 64 years that I have probably ever raised an issue of race in any format, or maybe even typed the word "racist". I wasn't trying to bait anyone. I had no idea it was such a loaded word with the people on this forum and the extensive lengths they would go through to belittle my observation. It's certainly educational.

For the record, I am well informed. I read the Strib every day and only noticed an article on day three of the missing report. I watch KARE11 news at 5:00 every day and only noticed a report yesterday. Maybe I somehow missed the blaring headlines, but I doubt it.
