Minneapolitan is on a distinguished road
I love our geographical situation. You have to learn to embrace and appreciate our distinctness (is that a word?). Whenever people bring this topic to my attention, I always point out that St Paul is the other half of our central city. So basically, our center 'city' is nearly 700,000 people strong, surrounded by more than 2.5 million in the burbs. That usually gets people to change their perceptions of how we rank.

I agree, Richfield, Saint Louis Park, Golden Valley, Robbinsdale and Saint Anthony, maybe even parts of Bloomington or Bloomington as a whole are basically still Minneapolis, incorporating them would add more tax money to the city and boost our population to something like at least 600,000. That would also make us more prominent in the rest of the country, and I don't think we would lose density. Richfield isn't less dense than Nokomis for example.

Oh, come now. I'm sure most people consider the entire size of a city's metropolitan area when they compare bit city sizes. Annexing the suburbs and suburbanites who do not want to be annexed is not the answer to anything.

Detroit has an annexation policy? Anyone living in the cities to be "annexed" would scream and holler bloody murder if that were the case. Heck, a couple years back the suburb of East Detroit wisely changed its name to Eastpointe.
