Hello all, Phoenix guy here that is making the move to Minnieapolis for a new job. Ive been reading these forums and craigslist rentals to try to get a feel for it all. Scheduled to drive up next week, stop in Boulder for a few days of hiking 14k peaks then continue to the flat lands of puddles called Minniesota. Looks like I will need to take up bike riding.

I figured out that to find a room to rent I will need to get a hotel for a week or two while I conduct rental interviews in the Lake Calhoun area. Whats tough is spending $100 a night for a hotel when I could be just using that money on an actual apartment. I was looking around for a clean hotel in the area south and southwest of there but only found DoubleTree at intersection of 494 and 34 freeeways with no laundry room but got 4 star user reviews. My new team at work over near southern Golden Valley suggested the Extended Stay in Eden Prairie which looks dirty and got 3 stars but has kitchens and laundry rooms.

Any other idea's while Im trying to find a room to rent or decide to just get my own 0br Studio.

You have to get the spelling down. It's Minnesota and Minneapolis. You picked up an extra i in there.

There are a ton of relatively inexpensive hotels in Bloomington. Stay at one of those.

I think he needs the names of these hotels.

Nobody calls it "Minnie"...except Mickey, and he's not here.

It is simply Minnesota.

First of all, you would generally be well-served to avoid insulting those whom you are asking for help. You are guaranteed to have a negative experience here if you put yourself in a negative mind-frame from the start. Conversely, you will find that a positive attitude begets positive experiences.

With that said, I would look at the Homewood Suites St. Louis Park at West End. It's about 10 minutes away from Lake Calhoun and just across the highway to the south of Golden Valley. It was built in the last few years and it has a 4.5 rating on Trip Advisor, plus it's directly adjacent to a very nice node overflowing with shops and restaurants.

He's going to think people here have no sense of humor and that we really are passive aggressive - or maybe more aggressive and less passive.

Fine, Minneeeeee Apolis
I think I can remember that.

Found a Super 8 within 1 mile of my new worksite. rated 4.5/5 and the common comments are clean beds. Booked a week at 85 a night. So now I have a week to settle into the new job and explore the neighborhoods for an apartment.

Then spend the following week at Ikea and estate sales for furniture! I hope I get new neighbors like StPaulyGirl. That will be entertaining lol.

Thanks all for the feedback. Much appreciated.

Have you ever tried groupon.com? Many times they have coupons on things like motels in an area. You might get one cheaper.

I would suggest doing an AirBNB personally. Cheaper than a hotel, actual kitchen for cooking so you're not spending wads of money on food, and you can get a better sense of "real living" in a neighborhood you might be interested in versus a hotel which are pretty much never near residential neighborhoods.
