Nobody needs to be jumped on because they refered to The Cities as Minneapolis. It was the city he was referring to. If one were talking about Saint Paul I suspect they would have referenced it in much the same way.
Actually, the term Twin Cities hurts my ear drums. I have never liked it and refuse to use it.

I used to live in Minneapolis, but now live in a St. Paul suburb and have developed the feeling that the rest of the world overlooks the fact that we are really 2 separate cities. If you will agree with me that the state capital is indeed in St. Paul; I'll agree that the original post was referring to "outside Minneapolis...."

I don't mean to quibble, Minnehahapolitan; but I had assumed that BRMan had made the same mistake twice.

St. Paul and Minneapolis are 2 separate cities connected by the land and the river, but have very different personalities and heritages. Minneapolis has a distinctive Scandinavian heritage whereas St. Paul has more of an Irish-German heritage. (Wikipedia has a good description about the two cities here: Minneapolis-Saint Paul - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia ).

If you feel that we are overlooked as two seperate cities, why perpetrate the term "Twin Cities"?
I have lived here my entire life and need no lesson on the differences between the two.
You were right to correct him, but the difference was between corrcting geography and terminology.
No quibbles, just a pet peeve.

Actually, I think the term "Twin Cities" is very appropriate: the Cities are like Fraternal Twins; growing and changing together but as 2 very distinct personalities.

There were quite a number of twins in the small community I grew up in, and some of those fraternal twins were different sexes and as different as night and day.

THAT is how I see the Twin Cities: together but distinctly different.

And I want to apologize to the OP for getting so far off topic here.
