Thanks for all the good info! I'll definitely post a few potential addresses after I return and ask for feedback. Thanks for the honest responses. (The new complex at Excelsior and Grand looks really nice, but bit pricey for starting out. Maybe there are other complexes nearby that are a little bit less expensive.)

They just finished the Excelsior and Grand buildings last year. I wish the Excelsior bus came more often (the third light rail line will be a block away, though). Otherwise the area is great. The older buildings behind the complex should be cheaper.
