quite a while, the space was just made so some day there would be but the stadium will be done by the time there is even a proposal for more rail.

Wouldthe Light Rail Run Down The Middle Of The Free Way Like The Train In Chicago? Also Does Anybody Know If A Date Has Been Set For Thr Northstar Commuter Rail, And What Route It Will Take In Minneapolis. I Was Thinking It Might Run Along 94.

There are no plans for light rail along the 35W bridge. However, because the bridge is expected to last 100 years and traffic on the original bridge tripled over 30 years, legislators asked for the bridge to be "light rail ready". A north route would make sense after developing the line to St. Paul and to western burbs, both of which are well in the planning stages. This reenforcement would also make it possible to run a 2nd deck on the bridge as well.

As for light rail, the bridge is built to possibly support the line. However, that would mean the line would be diverted from the center of the University area. Ridership would be hurt by taking the route across the freeway. I hope that the Central Corridor goes over Washington Avenue.
I don't think Northstar would need to go over the freeway bridge. It is built on an actual railroad line, which would have a dedicated bridge.
The businesses in the area are small operations. They took huge hits after the Collapse.

Has anybody heard whether the city of Minneapolis is going to have Flatiron build that suspended pedestrian bridge under the main bridge? I'd love to see it built, and the most economical time to build it would be right along with the main spans.

I don't see the new bridge doing anything special, other than getting traffic back to "regular". It should be the same as before it fell.
