Minneapolis went like three weeks AT LEAST without a single murder! That's pretty damn safe if you ask me, especially when you consider that it's roughly the same size as Atlanta and St. Louis.

The Fact is that one murder is too many.....

M504...Did you know that a lot of the Thugs and Gang members from Minneapolis are Transplant from Detroit and Chicago? I bet most are the muders in that city is attributed to those Transplant. When I was still living in Minnesota I met a lot of guys from my neighborhood in Detroit all scattered through out Minneapolis and St.Paul because they say it's easy money and no competion in Minnesota. The only ones are from the Chicago people. Detroit Boys, ask that to those Minnesota Boys and they know the deal. Them D boyz got things on lock in Minneapolis.

Not so bad anymore
Well, compliments of the housing "crash" and high foreclosures North Minneapolis is cleaning up very nicely, even the areas around Broadway.
It's a shame that something like this has actually been a positive situation in my and my neighbor's lives but the truth is that the majority of the people that lost their homes were the criminal element. Sadly, there were some very nice people that lost their homes also.
I live in Victory. Our neighborhood is beautiful and has a very low crime problem (less than Uptown and LynLake). We have a sense of pride in Victory and try to keep our neighborhood nice.
I have watched many foreclosure notices popping up all over in North. Even some in my own neighborhood, but the majority of them are south of Dowling and east of Penn. These were mostly owned by slum lords that couldn't afford the payments on all of the homes they scooped up. The tenants are the ones that have suffered over that but I can't help but think that part of the reason the slum lords were foreclosed is because the tenants weren't paying rent.
I made this prediction 8 years ago: North Minneapolis is the next Linden Hills.
People renting in Uptown can't afford to buy in Uptown or Linden Hills. They can no longer afford to buy along the 35W Corridor. They want to be close to Uptown and Downtown and therefore, in about 2 years you will see North Minneapolis turn into a beautiful neighborhood with a lot of culture and nightlife.
Nothing but good is going to come to North Minneapolis out of this foreclosure trend.

I agree with the post however,my hope is that N. Mpls doesn't and won't turn into the next Linden Hills but with a turn around in new homeownership will be more vibrant than it is now. It has that potential and ability to still keep it's bohemianism.

The areas around Victory Mem. Pkwy. are lovely. It the houses were 20 blocks south they would be twice as expensive. Things tend to change by the block in the city. Some are well kempt and are owner occupied. The next over will be codemened and rented to dealers and scum. Theres alot of history and even more hate. A damn shame. Anyways, thanks for the link to Jewish Mpls. on yahoo.

Nice post. All very true.
Should specify though that N Oaks isn't the highest property value in the state. That's reserved for Bracketts Point on Lake Mntka! There's a listing there for $53 Million!

chicago/detroit/gangs
Wait, are people busting on Minneapolis because the gangs here are often made-up of people from Chicago and Detroit?
For real?
It's lame to be in a gang. It's lamer still to glorify gangs. And yet lamer still to think there's something good about gangs having any influence in our cities.
Get a friggin' life.

Never lived in North, but visit my friend frequently who lives on Colfax. I am caucasian & I have NEVER had any problems there. Even when walking down the street at 2 am. No one has messed with me or my white friend. I would LOVE to live in North!!! I am from a southeast suburb of St. Paul.

Why is Humboldt Industrial even on there? Its like...a few factories and a train yard.

I actually just bought my first home in Humboldt Industrial....there's a 1.5 block stretch between Victory Memorial and the trainyard that runs for about a mile. I love it there. I was tickled to see it at the very bottom of the list!
