The reason I ask is that the Twin Cities has an extremely low unemployment rate and a ridiculously high labor force participation rate?

Does this mean that except for lunch time, there's not much hub-bub going on during weekday mornings and afternoons? Not that many artists and hipsters and slackers lollygagging at cafes and coffee shops and whatnot?

Downtown is dead except during happy hour and Friday and Saturday nights. Dinkytown, uptown, and northeast are usually busy all the time though.

So by daytime scene you mean a bunch of unemployed losers hanging out? Yes, there are such places. We have our losers, too.

Go to St. Louis Park lifetime fitness at 10am on a Thursday......you'll see many Dr's wives walking in late to their Pilates class while on their cell phones. Then they grab a $7 protein shake and continue to chat up friends and strippers who work the night shift.

Not necessarily unemployed losers. I was just thinking about vacationing in the Twin Cities and I'm trying to figure out where the daytime crowds would be for people watching purposes. My idea of vacationing is chilling in interesting neighborhoods rather than running around like a chicken with his head cut off.

You did mention unemployment and labor force participation rates. Why do that but to infer that high employment means no "daytime scene?" Whatever.

The answer is there will be people out all over. Go for a walk around the lakes.

I would think a restaurant or bar's patio (weather permitting) on St Anthony and Main would be a place to go? Being the oldest street in Mpls, on then river across from downtown with walking paths. Mall of America is non stop people watching.

I did that because I don't want to rush off to a neighborhood just to find out nothing's happening because everybody's at work.

I have heard good things about dinkytown and uptown. Also did google street view walk-throughs of both neighborhoods and they both passed the eye test.

Dinkytown is in the heart of U of M, so it's a younger crowd. Uptown would be a perfect site, the lakes are right there also.
