Default Commuting Thoughts

I'm in the process of relocating back to the cities after about 8 years away. I'm trying to figure out where to buy based on quality of education for the kids, and commute for me.

When I was here before, I lived out on the western side of Lake Mtka, and commuted to Minnetonka each day. No problems. However, I'm now working in downtown Mpls, and I'm trying to figure out where to buy.

I do want a little bit of space between me and my neighbors. Most of the neighborhoods I've looked at are fairly packed in. I've started looking further out, and so far, I've liked what I've seen in the Rockford area, and up north in Cedar/Oak Grove.

I'm able to do these drives with no traffic in 30-45 minutes. Question is, what's it *really* like M-F. I'm an early bird, typically leaving the house at 5am, so morning traffic shouldn't be an issue. What's it like in the afternoon coming back.

I'm relocating from the Boston area, where I had a 130 mile daily round trip for work. My commute time was usually between 2-4 hours each day in total. So, spending time in the car doesn't scare me. If I can get back even an hour per day, I'd be ahead!

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Compared to Boston the WORST traffic here will seem like a Sunday drive for you . There are a lot of places in the Metro where you can have some space and be in downtown in less then an hour. How much space are you talking about? A few acres or just a big yard?
