We are relocating to MN in two months and are in the process of buying a house in the price range of $350-$450K. As we have small children, school district is very important to us, and we have short listed two communites - Eden Prarie or Plymouth (Wayzata school district) . Our workplace is GoldenValley. We are Asian Indian and we would like a multi cultural neighbourhood to raise our family.
Please do suggest any pros and cons (if any :-)) between the two neighbourhoods....are we taking a right decision here? |

Both districts are great. You will be happy with either system. There is very little difference between the two communities.

I grew up in Plymouth and lived in Minneapolis for the first 26 years of my life. Choosing between Plymouth and Eden Prairie? Like the other poster said, you really can't go wrong. Both of these are great areas. If you have any specific questions, let me know.. I know the area very well.

Choose EP since it has me as a resident there! Lol!

I think EP has a higher per capita income, but Plymouth is a bigger community by population. Eden Prairie doesn't have the 'starter' homes that is pretty much what built Plymouth to what it is now.
When my wife and I moved from our starter 5 years ago, we couldn't have afforded EP for a single family home, but we didn't want a condo/townhome either so we chose Plymouth. Five years ago it was averaging 260k+ for the homes that now sell between 290 and 350. They are both great communities with pro's and con's in each city. You can't go wrong either one you choose. Plymouth is right next door to GV, 5-10 minute drive time by city streets. EP would be freeways and you're looking at 25 (minimum) to sometimes an hour in the summer months with boater traffic on the 494. AND it seems that the 494/62/5 freeways will only continue to expand (which means roadwork) as people move outwards of EP to Chanhassen/Chaska and beyond. |

The commute from EP to GV in the snow is horrible. Tried it in Y2k. Forget about it. There are plenty of alternate routes from Plymouth to GV.
