Default Fridley-does it exist?

Can't find much on Fridley. Is it so insignificant as to actually be almost nonexistent? Am supposed to be moving there in March. Just hope it's not all a figment of my imagination.

Fridley, Minnesota - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I've only been there once...Just seems like another typical TC suburb.

Isn't Columbia Heights, just south of Fridley, a little seedy, making Fridley itself a bit seedy?

Fridley exists; I drive through it a lot going to and from appointments. I don't know anyone who lives there; but it does have a lot of blue-collar and middle class residential areas.

It also has East River Road, University Ave (Highway 47) and Central Ave (Highway 65); 3 busy North-South thoroughfares that seem to have long stretches of retail businesses and that's the part of Fridley (and Columbia Heights) that most people think of first when it's mentioned.

Fridley is near Columbia Heights, but is nicer. It is an older area of town, although there are some new townhouse develepments. It is also near the Northtown Mall, which is in Blaine.

Columbia Heights isnt seedy. Its kind of dumpy but its not bad. Hilltop is seedy. Basically one big trailer court where you can buy meth and get mugged with less than 500 people to deal with.

Fridley is not Columbia Heights. It's much bigger in both area and population, and much more suburban in feel.

I have to take exception to your comments about Columbia Heights. Columbia Heights is "a little seedy" mostly because it surrounds the "city" of Hilltop, which is comprised of 4 individual trailer parks, Flameburger (not that bad!), two strip malls, and a handful of single family homes numbering in the low double digits.

Columbia Heights itself also has a 4-6 square block area just east of Central that has a number of tiny old apartment buildings. The worst of it is basically across Central from Hilltop. Other than that, the single-family-home areas of Columbia Heights are not bad places to live.

Columbia Heights is very affordable for singles, first-time home buyers, and families with small children. The people here are great. Property taxes are some 25-50% lower than nearby NE Minneapolis, and as a matter of fact, I would pay a little more, if only to beautify Central north of 40th, and to add 5-10 more cops to the city payroll. Its location is also very convenient, as it's only 10-15 minutes driving on city streets to downtown Minneapolis. (CH joins the NE Minneapolis street grid, which is not congested.) In particular, the eastern portion of Columbia Heights is, like St. Anthony and the northeastern-most portion of NE Minneapolis, in fact, quite desirable.
