Just curious what the market looks like for nurses in Minneapolis. Are there a lot of jobs available? is it congested? Any presence of minorities in the healthcare sector?

I guess we don't have a lot of nurses on here. Plus it looks like traffic here is way down from the past. Guess we all miss golfgal more than we thought we would.

People on this forum aren't in the cities. Have it moved to the cities forum? We are all out in the boonies.

I know Mayo needs nurses. But they are very selective.

My sister-in-law and niece are both RNs in St. Paul. The former does the home care work for which she is grossly underpaid for the amount of hours she spends filling out the #$%^ paperwork required. The other is a recent graduate and got on with a local hospital.

There is work, but there are also a LOT of nurses out there to compete with. Few want to go to the hinterlands anymore.

They tend to hire people who are well respected in their professions, without infractions, who have very good interpersonal skills. I don't think that is code. They are specific about what experience they want their patients to have.

But you will very rarely run into a nurse (or other mid level practitioner) who isn't extremely attentive, bright or helpful. But its similar to the deal with consultants (doctors). In some departments, they are super stars. Best of the best. But some departments (esp mental health and community medicine) there are some poopy docs too. Some are good...but not all, by far.
