Hello,

We will be moving to the Twin Cities from California in the next year and are attracted to St. Paul because of the affordable housing and diverse population. Any recommendations for neighborhoods with lots of young kids and good neighborhood elementary schools? We'd also prefer areas that are somewhat walkable or convenient to public transit. We're trying not to spend more than $500k. Thanks!

Welcome to Minnesota! Check out Highland and Mac-Groveland and possibly St. Anthony Park. I suggest contacting the local elementary schools and going a tour, they are very welcoming and helpful to find a good fit. Good luck!

Highland (Ford Parkway and Cleveland Ave area) is great, extremely walkable and family friendly. Houses from $300-600K on avg. maybe?

St Anthony Park is super cute and old, but despite being centrally located it is somewhat isolated from amenities however.

Mac-Groveland is nice, but once again doesn't have the amenities that a Highland Park does. Lastly, anywhere along Grand Ave corridor would also be nice.

Another recommendation for Highland Park. Should tick all of your boxes. Walkable. Street level retail. A-Line BRT access all day that connects you to the 46th St. Blue Line LRT on the other side of the river.
