Secluded fairy-tale castle in Eagan hits market for $2.9M | Star Tribune

Is this considered a mcmansion or just mansion?

But $3mil seems a bit high outside lake front property.

I showed the house next door to it (4980 Safari Pass) last fall. It is unbelievably impressive in person, even looking through the woods from the next house over.

Definitely not a McMansion. Unique custom home. McMansions have no vision, originality or design.

Yuk. An architectural nightmare. Did they miss any cliche add-on, well maybe a moat and draw bridge. Must be a Jersey architect. Beautiful piece of land. Too bad all that money was spent on such a ugly home.

Holy Crap!!! Yes, that's hideous. And trust me, I've seen my share of hideous home designs.

No coherent sense of design. It looks like a cheap set piece in a middle-school theater production.

Fake English-Medieval tower next to pseudo-rustic Scottish farmhouse on one side, with 1980's American "modernist" wing on the other, surrounded with a vaguely French-ified terrace balustrade. Worse yet, a laughable foyer in cheap neo-gothic splendor with an art-deco floor.

My god, just look at the rooms. A festival of white-painted sheetrock. But hey! The black-painted window and door trim says "I'm sophisticated!" And did you notice the "wood-lined library?" (Image 6 of 97) Looks just like Minwax-stained cheap oak plywood from Menards. Really. Look at it. It sucks like few have sucked before it.

Or maybe the weird shower stalls of the (presumably) master bedroom. Lined with English subway tiles. Except for one wall of sort-of Japanese bamboo-inspired vertical tiles. And weirdly American c. 1938 hexagonal floor tiles (17 of 97)

Yuck-O.

Oh,...um...yes, this has originality, I'll grant you that. But it fails with vision and design. And really badly. So, to me, this is a McMansion. But one on a bad-taste-scale rarely seen.

Proves that money can't buy good taste. But at least you'll have 7 garages in which to store your collection of 1975 Ford Granadas.

But, I have to say, I haven't had such a laugh at misguided design in many months. So at least it brightened my day.

I I don't think they missed a style of chandelier, they went to the Chandeliers - R-Us store down on Highway 9. Of course didn't miss the obligatory dead animal head above the fireplace. If there was a designer involved they need to be tarred and feathered.

1975 Ford Granada, love it! Maybe a Thing also? No, no, no, a Pacer.

Wow. Tell us what you really think! I don't care for the castle myself. I personally like symmetry and proportion. Just curious, what is an example of a beautiful home in Minnesota?

There are plenty of other homes and styles would beat castle grey.

Here's a steal on Lake Minnetonka at only 3.2. Not that it is my price range. I can dream though.

But my real dream would be a medium sized log home on a pristine lake in the middle of nowhere.
