I hadn't heard this, although the writing is on the wall. I go to MOA all the time, but never to Sears. I wouldn't be at all sad if this were true.

We were at MOA a few days ago. Sears is still open, but just in a sad sad state. If you walk in there you will have to exert an effort to find other shoppers or an employee. The shelves and displays are unkept and appear like they have the same merchandise from last christmas. The last few times I’ve walked in the store it was eerily reminiscent to Brookdale Mall in the last few months it was open. It was eery and lonely and blatantly obvious that its days were numbered. RIP Sears.

Meanwhile the rest of the mall seems fine.

The Sears in my town is still hanging on sadly my Local Sears is in a Dying Mall alongside a Discount Furniture Store and Dunhams. I actually kind of liked Sears and now the store is an empty ghost town. I heard a Projection that Sears could go bankrupt between December 23rd - January 2nd

Similar to the last time I was at the Rice Street location in St. Paul, though there was a lot less merchandise on the shelves at Rice Street (and fewer racks on the floor there as well).

I recall hearing at one point after the merger (mid-'00s) that Sears Holding was more a commercial property management company than a retail company, with all of the closed up Sears and KMarts they idled but still owned. They have only closed more since, including more than 100 over the past year or so.

Earlier this year, they sold the Craftsman brand to Stanley - not sure there is any return after that.

Malls are in a bad state period as far as retail shopping. For me, I don't like doing all my shopping online. At this point, only Macy's and Nordstrom will be the only department stores left standing.

Yes but that needed to happen 10-15 years ago. All of the capitalization of Sears lately has been to attempt to stop the bleeding (making debt payments, restructuring debt, paying the bills to keep the lights on, etc.) Sears is at the point of no return.
