Plymouth/Maple Grove to Roseville?
What is the commute going to be like? My husband is used to a 30-45 minute commute so that would be OK. Are we crazy?

That could get to be an ugly commute, especially on Friday. If your husband is working in Roseville, I would look to Mahtomedi and Stillwater before I would go into the western suburbs. The schools are equally as good and you have a 10 minute commute.

We have family in Plymouth so we really wanted to be in that area. But maybe it is not an option.

You could strategically place yourself in North Plymouth, close to 169, so you can take 94/694 over to Roseville. That wouldn't be too too bad.

I don't know about you, but I'd rather have an easier commute to work than to my family members.

Exactly, you drive that commute every day vs seeing your family once or twice a week, at most usually. Why add the extra gas expense daily to save it once on the weekend? Plymouth isn't that far from Roseville and on a weekend with no traffic it is an easy drive, daily, with traffic, it can be horrible.

Unless, of course, they have young kids and want the relatives to sit for them. Our family lives pretty close to each other and its nothing for Mom to visit her grandkids a couple 2 or 3 times a week. If she had to do a Plymouth/Roseville commute that wouldn't be so easy ... and if the family is close enough that they want to see each other several times a week, that would be worth the long work commute.
How can we make this work? A killer commute isn't always about distance, its about navigating choke points - where could they live where both Plymouth and Roseville are manageable drives, by back streets if needed? Does the "family commute" need to be during rush hour? I don't know that area well so I can't answer that ... anyway to be creative?

The daily commute from Plymouth to Roseville and back again via 694 would grow old really fast. The biggest problem with any commutes in the Twin Cities is getting across the rivers; hubby and I used to joke that MN drivers like to slow down and look at the water whenever they cross a bridge, especially during the rush hour traffic.
I would say that if you do decide to live in Plymouth, I hope your hubby finds alternate routes and/or can use some mass transit or car pools.

Do you think it would take more than 45 minutes? Because that is what he has driven everyday for 10 years and is totally used to that.

There have been days when it has taken 2 hours to drive 7 miles in that area, common, not really, but in the summer you can plan on an hour at times, like every Friday.
