Oh yeah I forgot this topic was centered on Minneapolis. Old Country Buffet/Hometown Buffet is actually based out of Eagan.

Yeah, bars. I forgot about them. Now I use the term. Also, parking ramps. Never heard that before I moved here. Same for "rubber binders".

I'm English and whenever anyone in MN rips on me about our cuisine, I have just four words for them: Deep fried cheese curds . On a stick. Now that's Minnesota haute cuisine.

What did YOU call those things? To me I can't think of other terms...
I will agree with the person who mentioned "hot dish". That's weird. lol And "casserole", isn't that actually the name of the pan? Anyhow, I grew up in an Italian family (though I was born here) and the closest thing we had to one of those was lasagna! I honestly never had an official "hot dish" until I ate over at my husband's home when we were dating and his mom served one.

Bars = whatever they were, like brownies, chocolate chip brownies, date-nut bars, etc.
Parking ramps = parking garages
Rubber binder = rubber band

Ah, parking garage. Hm, that sounds weird to me. I lie...come to think of it rubber band is what I call it, too. I suppose for the most part bars can be referred to as what they are, but for general reference...
