I suppose that makes sense. It is probably set up like a staffing agency where apartment complexes offer to pay them a small commission for finding them renters. Of course the higher the rent the higher commission they receive and most likely it's more of the larger complexes that contract them. What can you do I guess...there is still craigslist.

33rd and Girard can be kind of sketch, and it is no where near Whole Foods regardless.

Go to Craigslist and type in uptown. There are tons of places for rent right around Whole Foods. Some are a bit pricey, some reasonable.

Apartment Search, Rent.com, and the like are useless. Craigslist and the Star Tribune are the only way to go besides just driving around and looking for signs.

Thank you all for your responses and for taking the time to look and post links!

I currently live in Loring Park and just have to get out of that area. If I hear one more siren, or drunk woman yelling in the streets, I'm gonna flip.

The reason I like the Whole Foods side of Lake Calhoun is because it's quieter than the Uptown side. I don't own very much (hence my screen name) and a one-bedroom would be too big for me.

I don't own a car at the moment, and, as long as I live in Minneapolis, I won't. Don't need one. On the Whole Food's side of the lake, I can take the 17 right into downtown, where I work. I like Whole Foods because I eat very healthy and try to go organic as much as possible. I'm not opposed to living on the Uptown side and being near Lunds, though. But, because I eat a lot of fruits and veggies, I won't shop at Rainbow because the quality is so much better at the upscale stores. (Unfortunately).

I'm new to Craigslist, but I've been trying them for a month, and doing searches. I've run into SO MANY SCAMS from them and it's frustrating and time-wasting! I need a place by the end of April and so far I've found nothing. I'm hoping to find something around the $600 range because I want to live below my means so I can throw money at my debt. My goal is to be debt free by the end of the year. After that, I'll buy a car and rent anywhere I want!

Thanks again for the help, everyone. It's very appreciated. I've extended my looking another 1/2 mile down Excelsior to Trader Joe's. St. Louis Park seems a little cheaper. (I'm not opposed to the Uptown-side, though, either.)

EDITED TO ADD: I've tried Apartment Search, but they have their own interests at heart because they get paid by the Apartment Complexes, not the renter. I want to work with someone that has MY interests at heart.
