Does anyone know of any great studio apartments around Lake Calhoun, preferably around Whole Foods? I don't take up much space and a one bedroom would be far too much room for me. Peace and quiet are what I'm looking for. I'm without a vehicle, so apartment hunting has been tough.

I can't help you with an apartment but I saw on your other post that you were worried about getting to the grocery store--we do have Simon Delivers in the Twin Cities where they deliver groceries to your door. Just an option if you can't find something close.

I also just saw a Lunds/Byerlies delivery truck outside my complex so they're an option, too. For finding an apartment, there are websites like apartmentsearch.com and apartmentguide.com or you can probably find a local search outfit in the yellow pages.

If you don't have a car, the West side of Calhoun is noticably more inconvenient than Uptown. If you live closer to Lake and Hennepin you simply have better transit options, as well as a Lunds and Rainbow. Most of the apartments in that area are old, and most buildings don't have more than a few units.

James and Lagoon: 2 Room Studio.... Lake Calhoun (This is the area to look, I think. There's a lot of neat old buildings right around there, and you could walk to Lunds, and bus it to Whole foods, or take a taxi for the minimum fare + tip.)
33rd and Girard: Spacious studio in Uptown avail immediately (Cheap--a little too cheap, so I suspect it might be in the one ugly 60's building that you can see on Google Street View. But that location wouldn't be too bad--three blocks from Lake St., and one short block from Hennepin. It's pretty quiet there.) Edit: There are some 60's-looking apartments just off Excelsior, on W 32nd st, basically almost behind the Whole Foods that might be worth looking into. A friend of mine lived in a 1 BR there once upon a time. I don't know whether they have studios though. Still a peaceful location, and an easy enough walk with one or two grocery bags from the Whole Foods. Last edited by Thegonagle : 03-27-2008 at 07:42 PM. |

When I lived in uptown I'd walk to the Rainbow. The busstop on Hennepin will give you access to basically anywhere in the city. You should be able to find a decent studio on craigslist. There is actually a place off of Hennepin for helping people find places to live but I can't think of the name. I would check that place out too.

that "Apartment Search" place? Its basically useless, unfortunately. My old roommate and I talked to them about finding a place for under $850 with two bedrooms and air conditioning and the guy laughed and told us it would be very unlikely. We found four of them in the paper the next day and rented one for $800.

The one on 27th? I suppose I am weary of any business that takes the ground floor of what I assume is a high rent building to help you do something you could do on your own with the Sunday classifieds.
