Im moving to st paul soon and am curious what the gas, electric, water/sewer bills are going to look like. Ill be living in a 1500 sq/ft house. I imagine that the electric and gas vary widely throughout the year because of the temperature change, but I have no idea what they amount to.

there are alot of factors here, like your windows, your insulation and your furnace for example. The older the windows and furnace the higher your heating bills will be during the winter months. Do you have central air or a window unit? That's also a factor.

I used to work for a utility company and this question is virtually impossible to answer. The only real gauge is going to be past useage, and even that isnt a sure fire measuring point. St Paul has Excel for both gas and electric, so you can ask them what the average use (highest and lowest use) has been, and what the cost per therm was at that time. Natural gas is harder to pinpoint than electric because the cost waxes and wanes like the cost of gasoline does.

Gas in the winter will be expensive--surprisingly expensive. $180-260 a month is not out of the question, while in the summer, running nothing but a clothes dryer and water heater, it could be well under $30 in the same house. But CenterPoint, the dominant gas company in Minneapolis and its tributaries, has a budget plan which, for zero extra charge, averages out your gas bill over the year, which for me, is maybe $75 a month year-round.

Electricity might be $45-55 for the house and one person, maybe $10-20 each additional person. (This doesn't include air conditioning, which most people in this region opt to use only 4-8 weeks out of the year.)

Water/sewer/garbage/recycling is about 140-160 every three months in Columbia Heights for two people in a SFH.

It is really hard to say, our last house, same size as this house was about $100/month for electricity and $70/month in the winter for gas. This house is about $150/month electricity and about $150/month gas.
