I better shut up now. I am a southsider and always have been. I love the lakes and cosmopolitan feeling in this part of Mpls.

see ya..
Not sure what houses you mean...the architecture of North Minneapolis is extremely varied. There are some amazing properties depending on the neighborhood.

I'm sure this is off topic but it's still frustrating to me so if someone could clear it up that would be fantastic!

North Mpls is Near North and Camden neighborhoods combined?
Near North is not so great (?) and what most people think of when they hear "North Mpls"?
Camden is generally a pleasant place to reside and is forced into a negative reputation because it's part of North Mpls (but not Near North)?

Why the heck do they make things so confusing?

**I happen to like a lot of the architecture in Northern Mpls...what exactly is a "chicken coop house" supposed to look like? <~Anything but a farm girl if you can't tell.

North Minneapolis consists of several neighborhoods Northwest of Downtown.

The Near North community consists of Harrison (my neighborhood), Sumner-Glenwood, Willard-Hay, Near North (the neighborhood), Jordan, and Hawthorne.

The Camden community consists of McKinley, Folwell, Cleveland, Webber-Camden, Victory, Lind-Bohanon, and Shingle Creek.

Near North is considerably rougher than Camden. With the exception of Sumner-Glenwood (which is basically just the lofts at IMS) and most of Harrison, its pretty rough and tends to be where most violent crime in the city takes place. That is of course not to say that there isnt decent spots...its just on a smaller scale than neighborhood to neighborhood.

Camden is decent, although many of the south Camden neighborhoods have become considerably rougher in the past 20 years. Mckinley and Folwell have quite a bit of crime. Anything north of Dowling is decent.

I just bought a house in your price range in south Minneapolis. I would suggest finding a good realtor who can take down attributes you're looking for in a home and the general area and then produce periodic emailed reports to you everytime there are price changes or new houses on the market that fit your criteria and then go from there. If you need more info feel free to personal message me. I'm in the act of going through the home buying process right now so I may be able to give you further assistance if you wish.

For that much money, you'd be better off renting and saving. The only thing you'd find in a safe neighborhood for $100k is an older suburban condo (e.g., Roseville).

Not quite that, the only livable houses that could be bought right now for under 100k are in near-north. But yeah, there are plenty of homes available in Powderhorn in the 140k range.

lemme know how your living experience goes. My girlfriends mom is house shopping right now, and we keep looking towards the Powderhorn area. She needs a one story place though because she has limited mobility.

will do. I haven't moved in yet but I've met with some of the CNO people (Corcoran Neighborhood Organization) with very favorable results. There are alot of people there who really care about their the safety and well-being of their neighborhood. Not sure if you saw this article but a guy who lives right by where I'll live made himself heard at a Minneapolis city council meeting regarding aid for foreclosures

Minneapolis foreclosure program's focus turns to repairs

I think the biggest draws the neighborhood are the farmer's market and the other Lake street development, the light rail and dedicated neighbors...but I won't really know what it's like until I move in later this month and am there for a while, so I'll keep the board updated with my experience.
