Default Minneapolis Wireless and other ISPs

How is USI? That's the city's wireless internet, right?

Which is the best internet provider for speed, customer service and price?

I currently have ComCast but they make me pay for basic cable along with the internet and I don't even own a TV!

I have a cable system that is also for my internet and phone. I have heard some good things about netzero though.

I know that there are two versions available, HiSpeed 3G and Platinum, the HiSpeed option costs $14.95 per month and the Platinum costs $9.95 per month (some phone and live tech support charges may change the monthly cost). HiSpeed comes with some features that Platinum does not, such as pop-up blocker and AntiVirus protection.

I'm not very good with computers and I would suggest that you do not trust my opinion on this. But it is an opinion so I figured I would throw it out there

And your opinion is appreciated! Especially since I'm not getting much response on this thread.

I wouldn't need the anti-virus as I have an iMac. I have ComCast now and WOW are they spendy! I want a decent speed but not have to pay up the wazoo for it. I was wondering what the city of Minneapolis's wireless connection is like. I think it's called USI.

Again, I'm not good with computers at all.

However, I found this article talking about USI.

Minneapolis expands wireless network - Minnesota Daily

I don't know how much it helps but it has some information about costs and such.

I certainly would appreciate cheaper internet service too. I don't live in any wireless area, however, and I find I really like the high speeds of cable internet.

Is there anything out there that comes close to it but doesn't cost so much?

(Sorry, Simple Living, I don't mean to derail your thread, I'm just hoping that more people will respond to this too.)

They told me that, since their internet service comes in on their cable line, I have to at least have the basic cable - even though I don't own a television! This is why I wanted to know if USI is worth having.

I think somebody lied to you. You need to be in their cable service area, but you don't need to have a cable television plan.

No. Although discounts may apply for customers who have both services, either service can be ordered without the other.
