I don't know... this sounds like the reasoning of a very rabid person....

Rabies issues aside, the dog should still be reported. What if you were an 8 year old child and not a grown man? What defense would that child have against a dog weighing twice as much as she?

Rabies may not be as big a deal as it once was but it still is a worry these days.

A bigger concern is that dog -and cat- saliva contain certain bacteria that cause serious infections even if the wound is just a scratch. I got a tiny scratch from a cat that tried to bite me and within 12 hours I was really sick from that little scratch and had to take antibiotics for 2 weeks for it.

Just don't fool around with dog and cat bites as even a tiny break of the skin with one can make a person ill.

Bacteriologic analysis of infected dog and cat bit...[N Engl J Med. 1999] - PubMed Result

Rabies or not, you just can't have dogs going around biting random people.

Dogs bite for two reasons; being defensive or from a character flaw. So unless you were harassing the dog, the dog bit you for no good reason and chances are that it will bite someone else.

Poor Slig. I'll bet he's really regretting mentioning that he got bit by this dog! LOL

The most important thing in this is that Slig is okay. Outside of that, we would have all handled it a bit differently. I think this thread is lasting longer than the bite imprint through his pantleg!

I was walking northbound on the right side of the street on 16th Ave S about half a block from Lake Street with tacos al pastor on my mind when I saw a child of about 8 years walking his dog...either that or the dog was walking the kid as it was dragging him down the street. I didn't think much of it, just continued walking. As they approached I noticed they were coming towards me. From 20 feet away I could see it was a Pit Bull terrier, and it looked angry. When the dog neared it jumped up at me and bit me on the leg through the jeans. He immediately pulled it off me and apologized and I said it wasn't a big deal...but that was a lie, it actually kind of pissed me off. The dog's teeth were sharp.

When I got home I asessed the damage and could see redness and teeth marks on my leg but it didn't break the skin or anything. Thank God I had those delicious tacos al pastor from Tacos Taxi or my day would have been ruined. I don't care what anybody else says, I hate Pitbulls and I'd vote to illegalize them from the city of Minneapolis if given a chance.
I do recall a moderator's post the other day regarding this subject (pit bulls), something to effect of it was too inflammatory. Just giving you and others a heads up. This is a very controversial subject to pet lovers and I love all breeds. It's the owners fault when they go bad, just like bad parenting with kids running wild.
