Default uptown to oakdale. doable?

Hello,

After many years out of town, I'm looking to move back to the Twin Cities, where I grew up. I have a question regarding commuting. I have a possibility for a position in Oakdale. The thing is, I grew up in Minnetonka, and all of my family, cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, etc are out on that side of town.

I've always liked the uptown area, so I was thinking that that might be a solution. I like the area as a primary place to live; it's not too far from the western suburbs to see my family; if the commute was doable, it would be a good solution. Unfortunately, I'm still way out of the area (overseas, actually), so I can't check it myself and I have a feeling that fighting my way across both cities every day might be a real grind and can have an serious impact on my overall satisfaction with life in general. For example, I lived in SF for 6 years. For 4 years, I lived right in the city and could walk to work. Absolutely loved the city and my overall situation. Later took a job with a company in the south bay area, and didn't want to leave SF, so I commuted over an hour each way. My overall view of SF went way down. So, in short, commute time is a fairly big deal for me now. What would you guess my commute time each way would be from uptown to oakdale? (average of out and back)

a) < 30 min
b) 30-45 min
c) 45 - 1 hour
d) 1 hour to 1h15
e) more than that

Thanks for your feedback.

I've never made that commute before but taking 94 through Minneapolis and St. Paul during rush hour would be ugly. If I had to take a guess I'd say C.

I say at least an hour. Traffic has gotten much worse over the years. Get a job in Minnetonka instead if you want to live in Uptown.
