Hey Wil, there are active GLBT residents with our neighborhood organization, some of our neighbors are gay/ lesbian, and I remember seeing a lot of rainbow window or bumper stickers when I lived in webber-camden also. As far as level of organization/ strength in numbers, you might want to check out and/or inquire with this site/ organization:
Camden Gay Neighbors' League ....although it looks like it's been a while since last update, i pasted the home page below.
Welcome!
Welcome to the Camden Gay Neighbors' League/GLBTNorthsiders web site! It's no secret that Camden, Near North, and NE Minneapolis are becoming the Twin Cities' new
communities (broken link) of choice for gays and lesbians because of the convenient locations, great housing, and relatively affordable prices. Now that we're here, it's time for us to get organized. So far, the Camden Gay Neighbors' League exists only in the minds of a few of us Northsiders. We believe that our neighborhoods need a social and grass-roots political organization to help celebrate and improve the quality of life in our neighborhoods, and we're working to make the organization a reality.
We also plan to use this site to promote and publicize the loose-knit but highly successful GLBTNorthsiders Yahoo!® group. A new events page is here, complete with the first of set of
calendar pages (broken link) which list upcoming events of interest to Northside GLBT residents.
Our vision for a Neighbors' League is not exclusive - which means that membership will be open to anyone of legal age, regardless of sexual orientation, race, gender, religion, national origin, or anything else. However, we do plan on sponsoring GLBT-friendly social events and are hoping to promote GLBT-friendly businesses, so we expect that most of our members will be gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender.
The newest feature of the site is the
CGNL web log (broken link) (blog) that is now available. Although some blogs are like personal diaries, ours is a group blog. The blog will give us an online forum in which to share ideas and experiences. Visit the blog and take it for a spin. If you have ideas for improving the blog, send them to us via the
Feedback Form (broken link).
Watch this site for news and announcements. We'd like to hear from you! To be put on our e-mailing list (we respect everyone's privacy and will not share mailing lists with anyone), or to share information or to volunteer, please use our
feedback form.
