Default What's the commute like on 169, Bloomington to 394?

Can anyone tell me what kind of commute I'd be facing from southwest Bloomington/Eden Prairie area to 394 & 169? After several open houses I'm warming to the prospect of a townhome, manor home or twin home in the area so my major commute would be a straight shot up 169 (normal business hours). Also, if i were to go a bit further west around the Eden Prairie Center area how would that change the commute?

Any thoughts on twin home vs town home vs manor home, by the way?

Oh, and golfgal will be pleased to know I am rapidly cooling on the prospect of buying into a condo (I was very hot on Centennial Lakes earlier). Every one I've been to has left me just feeling ... cold. Too much of a box for my tastes.

It's a 5.8 mile stretch if you travel on 169 from 494 to 394. Traffic will be thick during rush hour...it'd probably take you 12-15 minutes.

Yep. Slig's correct. I travel that route myself sometimes during rush hour. It's not so bad. I can always manuever around quite easily. Even though it is only two lanes on each side, I find traffic can run pretty smoothly at times.

Ten years ago I did a similar commute, only in reverse. All I can say is on snow days, it will suck. There aren't a lot of viable North-South "back routes" in that area to disperse the traffic jams on 169. Otherwise, it wasn't too bad on most days.

It may get better soon, too, as they're looking at accelerating the plans to remove the stop lights on 169 at 494. They're talking about possibly building a standard cloverleaf interchange within the next 3-5 years, rather than waiting 8-10 years to fund a more complicated, expensive "flyover" interchange.

Plan to turn Hwy. 169 to freeway gains favor

PS: Seeing how well they take care of the bridges we already have (cough!), I'm all for the cloverleafs rather than the flyovers. Last thing we need is MORE bridges to maintain.
